Maintenance Person - Flitwick Care Home, Flitwick, Bedfordshire MK45

Hours: 37.5 Hours per week
Flitwick Care Home offers specialist residential, and dementia care across 3 floors comprising of 75 rooms. Luxury facilities include a cinema, library, hair salon, treatment room and gym as well as access to beautiful landscaped gardens.
We are looking for a friendly and motivational Maintenance Person to join our team and ensure our care home is a safe environment for the residents and staff and conforms to the requirements as laid out under the Health and Safety legislation.

About The Maintenance Person Role
Within your role as Maintenance Person, you will be working jointly with the Home Manager to ensure that our home is maintained to the highest of standards. Your responsibilities will include:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks including painting, decorating, minor plumbing, electrical repairs, and carpentry.
- Conduct regular compliance checks (e.g. fire alarms, emergency lighting, water temperature, legionella control, PAT testing schedules) and keep accurate records.
- Carry out health and safety inspections and report hazards, faults, or required works to the Home Manager.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff or management.
- Liaise with external contractors and service providers where specialist work is required, ensuring all visitors adhere to safeguarding and health & safety procedures.
- Ensure all tools, equipment, and materials are used and stored safely and appropriately.
- Maintain the exterior of the property, including gardens, paths, and car park, as needed.
- Support with moving furniture, setting up rooms, or other tasks to meet the operational needs of the home.
- Take part in regular training and updates relevant to the role.
- Ensure all work complies with current legislation and CQC requirements.

About You
We are seeking an experienced individual who can share our very own family values and would love to hear from those who really do want to make a difference to people’s lives:
Essential
- Proven experience in a maintenance or facilities role, preferably in a care or similar setting.
- Good general knowledge and skills in plumbing, electrical work, painting/decorating, and general DIY.
- Understanding of health and safety regulations, including COSHH, fire safety, and manual handling.
- Ability to complete paperwork and maintain accurate compliance records.
- Friendly, professional attitude with a commitment to high standards and resident wellbeing.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Physically fit and capable of carrying out manual tasks.

Desirable
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. City & Guilds, NVQ in Building Maintenance or similar).
- Previous experience working in a care home or healthcare environment.
- Basic knowledge of legionella prevention and fire safety systems.
