Maintenance Technician – 11-Month Contract
Location: Cardiff (Mobile Role Across Council Housing, Hostels & Community Living Schemes)
Rate: £18.92 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: 11-Month Contract
Hours: 37 Hours Per Week
Driving Licence: Full UK Driving Licence Required
Pay: Bi-weekly
Summary
We are looking for a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our Housing & Communities team. This role is crucial in ensuring the upkeep and safety of council housing, temporary accommodations, hostels, and community living schemes. You will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including general repairs, property maintenance, decorating, basic carpentry, and ensuring health and safety compliance. Your work will be vital in maintaining safe and well-kept living environments for residents.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and general property upkeep.
- Engage in painting, decorating, basic carpentry, and minor repair tasks.
- Address maintenance needs identified by housing teams and site staff.
- Prioritize and respond to urgent maintenance requests.
- Assist in moving and relocating furniture and equipment.
- Procure and collect necessary maintenance materials and supplies.
- Manage and maintain stock and equipment for maintenance tasks.
- Keep communal areas, grounds, bin stores, and car parks clean and safe.
- Remove bulk waste and litter as needed.
- Accurately record, update, and report maintenance activities.
- Ensure adherence to Fire Safety, Health & Safety, and Council protocols.
- Support the operation of hostels and community living schemes.
- Undertake driving duties related to the service.

Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in general maintenance and repair work in domestic or commercial settings.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Practical skills across various maintenance tasks.
- Ability to work independently and exercise initiative.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Capability to work effectively within a team.
- Proficient written and numerical skills.
- Familiarity with modern technology and mobile devices.
- Positive and adaptable work attitude.
- Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable
- NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent trade qualification.
- Experience in:
- Carpentry
- Plumbing
- Decorating
- Property Maintenance
- Experience working within Housing or Local Authority environments.
Additional Information
- This is a mobile role covering various locations across Cardiff.
- Uniform and identification badge are mandatory.
- Weekend work may be required on a rotational basis.
- Participation in an out-of-hours rota may be necessary.
