Overview

We are looking to recruit a Part-time Maintenance person to join our Burleigh Hill House Team. The successful applicant will be employed 5 days per week. The shifts are 6 hours long between 8am to 2pm scheduled between Monday to Sunday.

Sponsorship is not available for this role.

Main Function Of The Job

To ensure the safe environment of the Nursing Home, following Health & Safety Regulations

To ensure general maintenance of the Nursing Home – indoors and outdoors, to include general equipment and building repairs.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

  • Undertake daily, weekly and monthly environmental checks within the Nursing Home as directed
  • Checking emergency lighting, nurse call system etc
  • Testing fire system and record same
  • Maintaining records of servicing of equipment including boiler servicing
  • Assist with and complete Health & Safety assessments according to Regulations as required
  • Partake in on call to assist with emergencies ie heating plumbing etc.
  • Assist and work with approved Contractors
  • Liaise with Suppliers & Contractors to ensure the safe environment/equipment in the Nursing Home
  • Minor plumbing work such as leaking taps, blocked toilets and sinks
  • Touch up paint work, picture hanging and other minor repairs such as fixing carpets, door hinges etc
  • Cleaning of entrance of home to ensure good first impressions at all times
  • Replacement of light bulbs–(electrical duties not to be carried out unless trained to do so).
  • Maintain the grounds keeping the outdoors tidy and well maintained – to include some gardening work and maintenance of hanging baskets, flower planters etc
  • Sweeping and salting driveway and paths as required
  • Fence/wall painting as required
  • Responding to hazard warnings as directed by Home Manager
  • Collecting Prescriptions as required
  • Purchasing of materials as authorised by Home Manager.
  • Effective and economic use of materials
  • Reading and understanding of all maintenance records and ensuring accurate recording of jobs completed
  • Adherence to company policies, in particular confidentiality and Health & Safety
  • Non-routine duties to be authorised in advance by Home Manager
  • Due regard to safe moving and handling techniques and wearing protective clothing where necessary
  • All equipment used to carry out the job must be in good working order and used for the purpose intended. Any faulty equipment to be taken out of action and reported to Home Manager
  • All duties to be carried out with minimal disruption to the Home

Essential Criteria

  • Practical maintenance skills and experience, including basic plumbing, decorating and general repairs.
  • Good standard of written and verbal communication.
  • Good record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work safely and in accordance with the Home’s Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to identify and report hazards, defects and maintenance issues.
  • Ability to work independently, use initiative and prioritise workload.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and respond appropriately to urgent maintenance issues.
  • Ability to work respectfully and sensitively around residents, staff and visitors.
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training and development.
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle, where required for the role.

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous experience in a similar maintenance role.
  • Previous experience working within a nursing home, care home, healthcare or similar environment.
  • Relevant trade or maintenance qualification.
  • Experience of planned and preventative maintenance.
