Job Description:
Here at Hitachi Rail, we have a great opportunity for enthusiastic self-motivated Maintenance Technicians who thrive in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks and is open to working in rotating shift patterns. The position is based at Doncaster Train Maintenance Centre.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to start their career in rail as NO railway experience is required for this role!
Salary: £46,578
15% Shift allowance
Permanent contract
Accountabilities
In this exciting role, you will perform scheduled maintenance on our established fleet of Class 800/ 801/802 rolling stock for the Intercity Express Program on the East Coast Main Line and will be working in a dynamic work environment that values collaboration, adaptability and creativity.
Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:
- Undertake servicing and preparation of the Class 800 rolling stock.
- Undertake driving duties within depot confines in accordance with the depot operating procedures and instructions.
- Actively participate in the ongoing continuous improvement activities for maintenance processes and maintenance procedures that support all depot and fleet activities.
- Ensure exam tasks are being completed in a timely manner, undertake basic fault rectification or repair when required.
- Adherence to all health and safety processes and procedures.
- Support the Maintenance Team Leaders and Duty Shift Managers in the delivery of the production plan.
- Record all work activities and stock consumption using the maintenance management system in accordance with maintenance processes and procedures.
- Working shifts to meet the service requirements of the IEP fleet customers.
- Assist as required.

About You
Required Skills/ Knowledge
- Maintenance experience.
- Experience of working a 24/7 shift roster.
- Faults finding and diagnosis and write reports.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education/Qualifications
- Served apprenticeship with mechanical and or electrical disciplines.
- Engineering based NVQ level 3 or higher.
Behavioural
- Can comfortably work within a team or on their own.
- Calm and diplomatic under pressure.
- Loyal, committed, confident and determined.
Desired Skills (not Essential)
- IT skills – typically Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Reading electrical, pneumatic, mechanical schematics and drawings.
- Train driving.
- Working at Height, COSHH, Manual handling, AC HV Electrical isolation up to 25kV.
