Junior Maintenance Technician – Training Position
Location: Travel between sites will be required. (Oxford, Harwell, Abingdon)
We are looking for a motivated person to join Facilities Team based around central Oxfordshire. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone who wants to start a career in building maintenance, facilities operations, or engineering.
You don’t need years of experience — just a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and a genuine interest in hands-on work. We will provide full training and support to help you develop your skills.
About the Role
As a Junior Maintenance Technician, you will work alongside experienced team members to help keep our buildings running smoothly and safely. You’ll be trained in a wide range of tasks, from basic repairs to planned safety checks.
With training and supervision, you will:
- Carry out basic building repairs and general maintenance.
- Support routine inspections and testing, including fire alarms, emergency lighting, and other safety equipment.
- Help complete logbooks, forms, and electronic records.
- Assist with the induction and supervision of external contractors.
- Respond to general helpdesk requests such as meeting room setups or moving furniture.
- Assist with small projects, including office/lab moves and refurbishments.
- Take part in an out-of-hours on-call rota once fully trained.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
