Allied Mills is part of Associated British Foods and operates seven modern flour milling units across three production sites in Belfast, Manchester and Tilbury. We are also one of a very limited number of businesses able to produce semolina from Durum wheat in one of our specialist mills. Allied Mills is the UK’s third largest miller and mills wheat for everything from bread to bagels, baguettes and biscuits, pasties to pastries, doughnuts, cookies, burger buns and pizzas, naan bread and chapattis, noodles and pasta. Overview Of Role
Company: Allied Mills
Location: Trafford Park, Manchester
Hours: Monday to Friday 7am - 3:30pm / 2pm - 12am (call out rota every 1 in 5 weeks)
We have a great opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical Bias) to join an experienced team, providing a first-class service at our flour mill. In this role, the successful candidate will carry out planned, predictive and reactive maintenance tasks in line with safety and quality standards. They will safely carry out all repairs to plant equipment and services as quickly and efficiently as possible and contribute to the continual improvement of the plant.
Key Accountabilities
- To operate to procedures as defined within site quality, environmental and health and safety systems and standards.
- Contributes to continual improvement of the plant, processes and working environment through generating and implementing improvements and working collaboratively across departments/sites.
- Responsible for engineering safety on site.
- To assist with monitoring external contractors on site, ensuring familiarisation with site rules.
- Carries out daily monitoring inspections and self-audits in each area of the plant on a weekly rota.
- Responsible for small to medium projects and site process improvements.
- Uses the Maximo system, ensuring labour and material expended are recorded and PPM/PdM are carried out for all areas of the site.
- Safely carries out all repairs to plant equipment and services as quickly and efficiently as possible.
- Participates in the call out program for maintenance faults.
- Analyses and rectifies plant/process defects in a timely manner using RCA where applicable.

The Right Person
- A minimum of 5 years experience as a maintenance engineer in an operational environment, preferably FMCG, food or drink.
- Completion of a recognised Engineering apprenticeship/traineeship, with a minimum of City and Guilds Level 3 NVQ qualification or equivalent.
- Experience of mechanical and electrical industrial systems.
- Experience/knowledge of replacing mechanical drive couplings, chains, belts, conveyors.
- Replacement and care of rolling element bearings.
- Knowledge on compressed air and pneumatic control systems and components.
