About The Role

Job Purpose

Working alongside the Maintenance and Facilities Leads who are responsible for all machine shop and building maintenance across the Armstrong Works site, to ensure the uninterrupted and safe operation of industrial machinery and equipment to meet production goals.

Role Core Elements

  • Maximise Operational Efficiency: To ensure that all machinery, facilities, and layouts run at their maximum output and efficiency through proactive care.
  • Minimise Production Downtime: To provide an immediate and effective response to equipment failures, reducing the risk of revenue loss, reduced output, or compromised product quality.
  • Asset Longevity and Reliability: To transition a facility from a purely reactive repair model to a proactive one by executing rigorous planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules.
  • Safety and Regulatory Compliance: To maintain a safe and well-presented facility by ensuring all equipment meets stringent health, safety, and environmental standards.

Day to Day Activity

Responsible for ensuring the maximum availability and operational safety of all plant equipment. Will execute rigorous preventative maintenance schedules and provide rapid, high-quality technical troubleshooting to minimise production downtime and extend asset life. Will be pivotal in maintaining a safe, high-output manufacturing environment through technical precision, disciplined documentation, and a proactive approach to equipment maintenance.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair CNC machine breakdowns efficiently
  • Implement preventative maintenance schedules
  • Work to budgets and cost-effective repair solutions
  • Liaise with external service providers and suppliers
  • Maintain safety, compliance, and documentation standards
  • Prioritise and manage the maintenance of machinery and equipment effectively as directed by line management
  • Provide guidance to machine operators on basic routine maintenance and safe machine use
  • Undertaking PPM, fault finding and responding to any reactive maintenance to machinery or equipment
  • To monitor and report on preventative maintenance undertaken within each manufacturing production area
  • Dismantling machinery to remove defective components and installing new parts
  • Calibration of sensors and instruments where required to ensure quality precision is achieved
  • Conducting maintenance work on CNC Machining centres which include, Mazak, Haas, Doosan, Asquith Butler etc and horizontal borers.
  • Monitoring of stock levels of critical spare parts and adherence to notification processes to line management
  • Logging of every repair, inspection and parts usage into the maintenance system to maintain accurate records
  • Commission and decommission CNC Machinery as required
  • Complete full condition appraisals on CNC machinery
  • Comply with all Health and Safety policies especially LOTO procedures when carrying out maintenance on equipment and machinery
  • Any other duties as reasonably requested by your Line Manager or a member of the Senior Management team

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Time-served or apprentice-trained CNC Maintenance / Machine Tool Engineer background – NVQ level 3 or above.
  • Strong understanding of CNC milling and turning machines
  • Proven experience with reactive and planned maintenance
  • Exposure to multi-axis metal cutting machinery

Desirable

  • IOSH Working safely
  • Previous experience commissioning and decommissioning machinery
  • PLC Knowledge
  • Electrical knowledge advantageous
  • Strong mechanical knowledge
  • Crane knowledge and operations
  • Excellent problem solver and able to rectify a broad spectrum of issues
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Facility maintenance – HVAC, MEP etc
