About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to lead the development and delivery of West Northamptonshire’s major events programme, helping to create a vibrant, accessible, and financially sustainable events offer for residents and visitors alike.

Working to an Attract, Support, Grow approach, you will play a key role in positioning West Northamptonshire as a destination for major sporting, cultural, and heritage events. You will identify and attract new events to the area, support the continued success of existing events, and create opportunities to develop and grow the Council's event portfolio to maximize social, cultural, and economic benefits.

You will take the lead on procuring and awarding contracts for major event promoters and associated organizations, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality events across the area.

Through strong partnership working and strategic planning, you will drive the sustainable growth of West Northamptonshire's events programme while identifying innovative opportunities that enhance the area's reputation and appeal.

Working closely with event promoters and key partners, you will drive continuous improvement across the events programme, enhancing workforce development, volunteering opportunities, affordability, accessibility, and health and safety compliance.

You will play a pivotal role in raising standards and strengthening West Northamptonshire's reputation as a destination for outstanding events, whilst ensuring that investment in events delivers clear value for residents, businesses, and visitors.

The role is responsible for the strategic planning, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of the Council's major events portfolio. Collaborating with both internal teams and external stakeholders, you will ensure events deliver measurable social, cultural, and economic outcomes while remaining inclusive, accessible, and financially sustainable for the communities they serve.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and delivery of West Northamptonshire’s major events programme.
  • Position West Northamptonshire as a destination for major sporting, cultural, and heritage events.
  • Identify and attract new events to the area.
  • Support the continued success of existing events.
  • Develop and grow the Council's event portfolio.
  • Procuring and awarding contracts for major event promoters and associated organizations.

Requirements

  • Highly experienced events professional with extensive knowledge of event management, licensing legislation, health and safety requirements, and emergency and contingency planning.
  • Strong understanding of the national organizations responsible for the strategic planning and delivery of major sporting, cultural, and heritage events across England.
  • Ability to build effective partnerships and identify opportunities that benefit West Northamptonshire.
  • Significant experience in managing and delivering large-scale festivals and events with high-quality creative content.
  • Proven track record in project and programme management.
  • Understanding of the challenges and opportunities of delivering events within a public sector environment.
  • Ability to build business cases, justify expenditure, demonstrate value for money, and ensure investment delivers tangible outcomes for local communities.
  • Experience of working within a Local Authority, or in partnership with Local Authorities, is highly beneficial.
  • Confident in overseeing complex event programmes, managing risks, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, and maintaining the highest standards of health and safety.
  • Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Passionate about attracting, supporting, and growing a successful events programme that enhances West Northamptonshire's cultural offer and delivers positive outcomes for residents, businesses, and visitors.
