Job Title: Make Logistics Operator

Business Function: Supply Chain

Location: Port Sunlight

JOB PURPOSE

The Make Logistics Operator supports the production of Personal Care products by controlling the movement of raw material streams from Goods Inwards through to Process vessels. The role is responsible for ensuring the correct raw materials are picked, weighed, staged, delivered to the correct mixing location and returned to the correct storage location after use, with all materials handled safely, accurately and in line with relevant procedures.

The role supervises the safe and efficient offloading of bulk liquid and solid tankers, manages the circulation of used raw material packaging and maintains accurate raw material stocks through correct use of SAP Warehouse Management processes, including goods receipting, stock postings, cycle counting and stock adjustments.

The Make Logistics Operator plays a key role in supporting production continuity by loading process vessels, planning and completing pre-weigh activities, replenishing undertone raw materials, supporting manual loading and ensuring strong communication between Make, Logistics, Planning, Quality, Engineering and Stores teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety

  • Follow all site health, safety and environmental rules, policies and procedures at all times, actively supporting a safe working environment for colleagues, contractors, visitors and delivery drivers.
  • Ensure delivery drivers and hauliers follow site rules during goods receipt, tanker offloading and yard activities.
  • Complete daily Tank Farm checks and other area inspections, escalating and acting on findings promptly.
  • Identify and report health, safety and environmental hazards, near misses and dangerous situations, taking immediate action where required to reduce risk.
  • Carry out or support risk assessments, COSHH reviews and task analysis where required, ensuring work is only completed when appropriate controls and competence are in place.
  • Know and follow emergency response requirements for chemical spills, fire and other site incidents.
  • Ensure waste and used raw material packaging are correctly identified, segregated, circulated and disposed of through the correct route.

Quality

  • Follow all quality and hygiene requirements for the work area and highlight required standards to contractors, visitors and delivery drivers where relevant.
  • Carry out required quality testing of incoming bulk raw materials before offloading tankers.
  • Complete all SAP, warehouse and paperwork transactions accurately and on time to ensure full traceability of raw materials throughout the process.
  • Pick, weigh, dispense, stage and issue raw materials in line with quality procedures and standards to achieve product quality targets and minimise waste.
  • Ensure all raw material containers are correctly labelled, clean, free from debris, free from drips and contamination, and returned to the correct storage location after use.
  • Report quality non-conformances through the correct process and take immediate action to rectify issues where required.
  • Support investigations into non-conformances and help eliminate defects through root cause analysis and corrective action.

Customer Service

  • Follow the weekly and daily production plan shift by shift, staging and pre-weighing batches as required to maintain continuous supply to each process stream.
  • Anticipate and respond quickly to raw material, delivery, system or stock issues to avoid impact to production and customer service.
  • Operate PCS7 process control functions where required, including tanker offloading, undertone replenishment and pre-batching processes.
  • Monitor and replenish IBC undertone raw materials to support production continuity.
  • Make up Carbopol solution to maintain stock in the day tank, including CIP and SIP of the system as required.
  • Work with Hair Process Operators during manual loading of solid materials to Oil Phase vessels.
  • Operate the wax melter, including addition of bulk bags through the handling system.
  • Ensure raw materials, IBCs, bulk deliveries and packaging are correctly inspected, recorded, identified and supplied onwards to Make operations in line with plan requirements.
  • Maintain excellent handovers, logbooks and activity board updates so that material requirements, risks and priorities are clearly communicated across shifts and areas.

Cost

  • Carry out cycle counting, stock checks and stock adjustments as required to maintain accurate raw material stocks.
  • Complete daily Z2RAZ checks of bulk raw materials and take action to resolve discrepancies.
  • Use SAP Warehouse Management accurately for goods receipting, expected deliveries, stock postings, material movements and traceability.
  • Identify and support improvements that reduce waste, improve stock accuracy, strengthen material flow and minimise operational cost.

Run To Standard

  • Take ownership for housekeeping and workplace organisation across Goods Inwards yard, Tank Farm, Raw Material Warehouse, second floor Preweigh and third floor areas.
  • Complete daily routines in line with area cleaning schedules and maintain 5S standards.
  • Carry out cleaning, inspection and monitoring of equipment condition to anticipate breakdowns and unplanned stoppages, raising tags where required.
  • Ensure work areas and equipment are returned to original condition following maintenance, cleaning or operational activities.
  • Participate in PM briefs and debriefs, provide breakdown information and support Engineers with breakdown analysis and countermeasures.
  • Record and classify losses accurately, monitor the area loss tree and communicate patterns or trends to the team.
  • Support a Fix Forever mindset by helping update AM or PM standards, operating procedures, OPLs and training requirements.
  • Help reduce changeover and material preparation time through SMED and other focused improvement techniques.
  • Share knowledge, create or update procedures and support training where improvements or gaps are identified.
  • Support new equipment, product and process projects, including Maintenance Prevention and Pre-Delivery Inspection workshops where required.

Teamwork and Communication

  • Maintain excellent internal communications across all areas
  • Maintain accurate and timely logs, activity boards
  • Complete full and effective handovers
  • Complete on call and cover requirements as required and in line with working agreements

Training and Development

  • Ensure all relevant personal skills are displayed on the team skills matrix and kept up to date.

ALL ABOUT YOU

Essential:

  • GCSEs A-C or equivalent in Maths, English and Science.
  • Basic computing skills, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Ability to use SAP Warehouse Management or equivalent systems accurately for goods receipting, stock postings, stock checks and material movements.
  • Strong organisation, prioritisation, communication and handover skills.
  • Understanding of safe material handling, stock accuracy, hygiene, traceability and quality requirements.
  • NVQ2 or equivalent in process, logistics, warehouse or manufacturing skills.
  • RTITB Counterbalance trained with licence in date, or other Material Handling Equipment certification relevant to the role.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a manufacturing, logistics, warehouse, process or FMCG environment.
  • Previous experience of tanker offloading, raw material handling, pre-weigh operations or process vessel loading.
  • Previous SAP, warehouse management system or stock control system experience.
  • Working knowledge of COSHH, process safety, environmental standards, manual handling, task hazard analysis and safety audit requirements.
  • Knowledge of stock taking, inventory accuracy, goods receipt, material issuing, labelling, traceability and reconciliation processes.
  • Experience using PCS7 or similar process control systems for tanker offloading, undertone replenishment or pre-batching activities.

Travel

Primarily site based, with travel only where required for training, supplier engagement, meetings or operational support.

  • Contractors, visitors, delivery drivers, hauliers, suppliers, Unilever supply units and third-party logistics partners.
