This is a training position for a licensed Radiologic Technologist (R.T.) who is actively pursuing their certification in Mammography (M). The trainee will work under the direct supervision of a certified Mammography Technologist to develop the skills, knowledge, and clinical experience necessary to become eligible for the ARRT (M) examination. The primary goal of this role is to successfully complete all training requirements and achieve ARRT (M) certification within 9 months of entering the position.
Hours are Monday through Friday flexible hours. Saturday once per month 7 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Mammography Technologist Apprentice at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Under the supervision of a Licensed & Certified Mammography Technologist:
- Performs screening, diagnostic, CEM and biopsies examinations on adult adolescent and geriatric patients in an expedient and professional manner.
- Performs all mammographic imaging procedures as trained.
- Provides immobilization devices, selects proper technical factors based on individual patient needs and selects and operates equipment for specific procedures.
- Performs bone density procedures as assigned.
- Identifies patient's images with the correct name, MRN number and ensures that images are correctly marked as to the breast side and that all images have technologist's initials.
- Assists with quality control procedures and documenting of phantom image, repeat analysis, calibration test, Geometry calibration, diagnostic review workstation QC, compression test, visual machine checks, view box calibration test, artifact test, CNR/SNR testing and reviewing condition, as delegated by the leadership.
- Assists with compiling statistics for patient follow-ups, tracking of breast localizations, biopsy recommendations and follow-up on positive biopsy reports.
- Documents procedures regarding quality control and quality assurance for mammography in compliance with ACR, MQSA, NJ State and FDA.
- Ensure proper use of the Faxitron system.
- Documents in EMR (EPIC) any pertinent information regarding patients.
- Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
- All equipment must be cleaned with hospital disinfectant as per manufacturer instructions recommendations.
- Understands and verbalizes proper shielding protocol as per institutional policy.
- Understands and verbalizes image gently and image wisely.
- Ensures rooms are stocked and kept in an orderly manner.
- Ensures proper labeling of specimen images.
- Tracks the location of the patient in Epic during the Breast Center visit.
- Ensures appropriate procedures are begun and ended in a timely manner.
- Recognize equipment technical errors and initiate corrective action.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
- Lifts a minimum of 25 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs. and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day.

Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
- Graduate of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology.
- Must be able to meet the requirements for the National Registry (ARRT) and pass the examination.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Licenses And Certifications Required
- Diagnostic Radiography License.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certification.
- BLS AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.

Compensation
Minimum rate of $38.27 Hourly

The posted rate of pay in this job posting is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package.
