About LSG

LSG is a rapidly growing construction and civil engineering business delivering major structural, groundworks and infrastructure projects across the UK and Europe.

Originally established in the UK, the business has grown significantly and now has operations in the UK, Portugal and Italy, working on large-scale and technically demanding projects for major clients.

We are an ambitious, entrepreneurial and commercially focused business with a relatively lean management structure. Our continued growth and international expansion mean that the business is constantly evolving, creating a varied and fast-paced working environment where people are given genuine responsibility and the opportunity to make an impact.

As the Group continues to grow, we are strengthening our finance function to support the next stage of development. We are looking for people who enjoy taking ownership, solving problems and working closely with both operational and commercial teams, rather than operating within a narrowly defined accounting role.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Management Accountant to take day-to-day ownership of the finance and accounting function for our UK business.

This is a broad role covering the full accounting cycle rather than a traditional management accounting position focused solely on month-end reporting. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the company's accounting records are accurate and up to date, transactions are processed correctly, financial controls are maintained, deadlines are met and management information is produced on time.

The role will report to the Head of Finance, who will provide oversight and review, but the Management Accountant will be expected to take ownership of the UK finance function and proactively manage accounting matters through to resolution.

The position would suit someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced, growing business and is comfortable switching between management accounts, transactional accounting, compliance and ad-hoc commercial requests.

Key Responsibilities

Management Accounts & Month-End

  • Take ownership of the monthly accounting cycle and month-end close.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L, Balance Sheet and supporting schedules.
  • Complete regular bank reconciliations across all UK bank accounts
  • Prepare and post accruals, prepayments, depreciation and other month-end journals.
  • Complete monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations and investigate outstanding items.
  • Review project revenue, costs and margins and investigate significant variances.
  • Prepare overhead analysis and other management reporting.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register.
  • Maintain and reconcile intercompany balances.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting and cashflow reporting.
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting to the Head of Finance and directors as required.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience & Skills

Essential

  • Experience in a Management Accountant, Company Accountant or similar broad finance role.
  • Experience taking ownership of month-end and producing management accounts.
  • Strong Balance Sheet reconciliation skills.
  • Practical experience of purchase ledger, sales ledger and credit control.
  • Experience preparing VAT returns.
  • Good understanding of payroll accounting and financial controls.
  • Ability to investigate accounting issues independently and take them through to resolution.
  • Comfortable being hands-on with transactional accounting when required.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise competing deadlines.
  • Proactive approach – able to identify what needs doing without waiting to be instructed.

Desirable

  • Construction, civil engineering or project accounting experience.
  • Experience working within a growing owner-managed business.
  • Experience with ERP or construction accounting systems.
  • Experience with intercompany accounting and multi-entity groups.
  • Part-qualified, qualified or qualified by experience (ACCA/CIMA/ACA or equivalent).

The Person

We are looking for someone who will genuinely take ownership of the accounting function rather than simply complete a defined list of month-end tasks.

You should be equally comfortable preparing management accounts, investigating a Balance Sheet discrepancy, raising a customer invoice, chasing an overdue debt or processing a supplier invoice when required.

The environment is fast-moving and priorities can change quickly, so you will need to be organised, commercially aware and comfortable responding to urgent and ad-hoc requests while ensuring core accounting responsibilities and deadlines remain under control.

The Head of Finance will provide oversight and support, but the expectation is that you will manage the UK accounting function proactively and independently.
