Description

This is a part-time role, based on three days per week. We’re flexible about how those three days are worked. The salary shown has been pro-rated to reflect the equivalent annual salary for a three-day-per-week role. Based out of our offices at Ashton Gate Stadium.

About the role

We are looking for a part time (3 days per week) Management Accountant to lead the Foundation’s finance function and work closely with the CEO, trustees and budget holders. You will combine accurate financial management with clear analysis, helping colleagues understand performance, manage budgets and make well informed decisions.

The role goes beyond maintaining the accounts. You will strengthen financial planning, controls and reporting as the Foundation delivers its strategy and develops sustainable income for the future. You will also provide line management to the Charity Administrator.

Main Duties

  • Manage the Foundation’s accounting operations, including banking, payroll, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and revenue recognition.
  • Complete month-end accurately and on time, including journals and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare quarterly management accounts, detailed commentary and a clear finance pack for presentation to the Board of Trustees.
  • Maintain cash flow forecasts, support investment decisions and oversee reporting for funds held through Flagstone.
  • Lead the annual budget and reforecasting processes, working with budget holders to improve ownership and control.
  • Support the CEO with medium and long term financial planning, scenario analysis and management of financial risk.
  • Maintain effective financial policies, procedures and controls, ensuring compliance with Charity SORP and FRS 102.
  • Lead the annual audit process and ensure agreed recommendations are implemented.
  • Manage and improve finance systems and processes, including QuickBooks Online, Dext, ApprovalMax and Fathom.
  • Provide supportive and effective line management to the Charity Administrator.

About you

You will bring sound technical knowledge, good judgement and a collaborative approach. You will be comfortable working independently while explaining financial information clearly to colleagues with different levels of financial experience.

Essential experience and skills

  • Qualified – relevant accounting qualification.
  • Experience across a broad finance function, including month-end, management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, budgeting and cash flow forecasting.
  • A sound understanding of Charity SORP and FRS 102.
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
  • The ability to organise competing priorities, meet deadlines and build effective relationships at all levels.

Desirable experience

  • Experience in the charity or sports sector.
  • Line management experience
  • Experience of payroll processing and annual audit delivery.
  • Experience using QuickBooks Online, Dext, ApprovalMax or Fathom.
