Management Accountant

VNI Finance is supporting our client in Glasgow in appointing a Management Accountant. This opportunity suits someone with an industry finance background who is recently qualified or nearing completion of ACCA or CIMA.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will contribute to monthly management reporting, budgeting and forecasting, while building relationships with colleagues across the business. The position offers scope to develop your commercial experience, with guidance from the Finance Manager and study support for those completing their qualification.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including journals, accruals, prepayments and supporting schedules.
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
  • Analyse revenue, costs and margins, providing clear commentary on performance against budget and forecast.
  • Support the annual budgeting process, working with budget holders to prepare and challenge assumptions.
  • Prepare and update forecasts, highlighting changes in expected performance, risks and opportunities.
  • Work with operational colleagues to understand business activity and ensure this is reflected in budgets and forecasts.
  • Support cash flow forecasting and working capital reporting.
  • Assist the Finance Manager with year-end reporting and audit requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting, financial processes and controls.
  • Use Excel and finance systems to improve the accuracy and efficiency of reporting.
  • Provide financial analysis to support business projects and commercial decisions.

Candidate profile

  • Recently qualified or nearing completion of ACCA, CIMA or an equivalent professional accountancy qualification.
  • Experience gained within an industry finance team, with practical involvement in management accounts and month-end reporting.
  • A sound understanding of journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Exposure to budgeting and forecasting, with an interest in developing these skills further.
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial data and accounting systems.
  • An analytical approach and the curiosity to understand what sits behind the numbers.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to build relationships with colleagues outside finance.
  • Good organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to meet reporting deadlines.
  • A willingness to take ownership, improve processes and develop broader commercial skills.
