An exciting opportunity to join our small finance team and make a real impact on business performance.

About Bedmax

Bedmax is the UK’s leading manufacturer of equine bedding. Established in 2000, the business has grown significantly over the past 25 years and now operates from four manufacturing sites across the UK, with an expanding range of high-quality products and a strong reputation within the equine industry.

We are looking for an experienced Management Accountant to join our finance team and provide insightful, accurate and timely financial information to support decision-making across the organisation.

About the Role

Working from the head office, near Belford, Northumberland as the Management Accountant, you will play a central role in ensuring that managers have the financial insight they need to manage their areas effectively. You will analyse financial performance, identify trends and variances, and provide clear, practical advice to support the wider business.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will work closely with operational managers, helping them understand financial performance, manage budgets and make informed business decisions. This is a key role within the finance function, offering the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of financial reporting and management processes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Producing and interpreting operational Profit & Loss Accounts and Balance Sheets, ensuring information is accurate, timely and relevant.
  • Consolidating financial information across a range of profit and cost centres and turning data into meaningful business insight.
  • Completing and overseeing monthly and quarterly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Monitoring expenditure against budgets, identifying significant variances and working with managers to understand and address them.
  • Supporting the annual budgeting process, including detailed analysis of prior-year expenditure and trends.
  • Providing advice and guidance to managers and colleagues on management accounting, budgeting and financial matters.
  • Supporting regulatory reporting, including VAT and ONS returns, ensuring submissions are accurate and compliant.
  • Supporting the company's annual insurance renewal process, working with the insurance broker and responding to ad hoc information requests.
  • Keeping up to date with relevant accounting standards, legislation and developments in financial reporting.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
