JOB SUMMARY

The Interim Management Accountant plays a key role within the finance team, supporting and managing the delivery of accurate, timely financial information across departments and the wider business. Working closely with the Senior Finance Manager and Finance Business Partner (FBP), the role is responsible for the preparation of monthly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, financial reporting and analysis to support effective financial control and decision-making.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Relevant experience within a Management Accounting or Finance role
  • Qualified ACCA / CIMA / ACA (or equivalent)
  • Strong month-end accounting experience
  • Experience preparing management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong systems capability
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Positive with a “can do” attitude
  • Team player who enjoys working in a high-performing environment
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Commitment to delivering excellence and continuous improvement

Requirements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Management Accounts & Month-End Reporting

  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts in line with reporting deadlines.
  • Prepare and post month-end journals including accruals, prepayments, recharges, depreciation and adjustments.
  • Prepare detailed variance analysis for revenue and expenditure against prior periods and expectations.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly reporting packs for review by the Senior Finance Manager and Finance Business Partner.
  • Ensure all month-end processes are completed accurately and within agreed timescales.
  • Support standardisation of revenue recognition workings across income streams, to ensure bookings are correctly stated.
  • Support the maintenance of robust financial controls throughout the month-end process.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with accounting policies and financial procedures.

Financial Analysis & Reconciliations

  • Prepare and maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciliation differences and financial discrepancies.
  • Analyse operating costs, revenue performance, and financial trends to support management review.
  • Prepare and maintain intercompany reconciliations and eliminations, including ownership of recharge calculation and posting.
  • Own VAT reconciliations and review submission accuracy.
  • Oversee inventory stock counts and spot checks, and own the inventory balance sheet reconciliation.
  • Report on capital expenditure and maintain supporting schedules.
  • Support cash flow reporting and monitoring activities where required.
  • Ensure all bank transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled.
  • Perform ad hoc reconciliations and financial analysis as required.

Financial Control & Process Improvement

  • Support the Senior Finance Manager in maintaining strong financial controls across the finance function.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, controls, and efficiencies.
  • Assist with implementation of process improvements and system enhancements.
  • Ensure financial data integrity across accounting systems and reporting outputs.
  • Support compliance with internal controls, company policies, and audit requirements.
  • Own SOP documentation and a named backup for every technical area under this role’s remit, so no process depends on a single individual’s undocumented knowledge.
  • Assist with year-end audit preparation and provide supporting documentation to auditors.
