Job Title: Management Accountant

Location: Ardwick, Manchester

Duration: Permanent, Full Time

Flow Student at a glimpse

Flow Student is the student accommodation platform of MCR Property Group, a leading independent real estate investment and development company operating nationally, with offices in London, Manchester, Birmingham, and Glasgow. Launched in 2026, Flow has grown rapidly through acquisition and now operates more than 8,000 beds in university cities across the UK, including Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield, Preston, Nottingham, Coventry, Sunderland and Canterbury, with a clear ambition to reach 15,000 beds. Our focus is on well-located, well-run accommodation, backed by ongoing investment in our buildings, systems and people. As the platform continues to expand at pace, we are building a dedicated finance team in Manchester and are looking for capable, driven individuals who are eager to grow alongside the business.

Our Current Requirement

We are currently seeking a Management Accountant to join our growing finance team in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-paced, thriving business at an exciting stage of its growth, offering genuine opportunities for professional development, exposure to a rapidly expanding portfolio of student accommodation, and the chance to help shape a finance function as it is built.

In this role, you will play a key part in supporting and guiding the financial operations of the business, taking responsibility for the preparation of monthly management accounts, including site-level profit and loss reporting and detailed overhead analysis. You will reconcile rental income and bookings from our property management system, StarRez, to the ledger, manage deferred income and rent received in advance across the academic year, and carry out regular balance sheet reconciliations, including student deposits, debtors and accruals, to ensure accuracy and control across the business. The position will also involve intercompany accounting and reconciliations with the wider MCR Group, the posting of monthly payroll journals, and the maintenance of the fixed asset register as refurbishment and capital investment programmes are delivered.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You will be responsible for tracking costs against budget and providing meaningful variance analysis on a monthly basis, helping operational and asset management teams make informed commercial decisions. You will support the preparation of year-end accounts and audit files, and have oversight of VAT returns, working closely with the finance assistant and purchase ledger team to ensure timely and accurate submissions. You will review accounts payable activity and finalise payment runs, and play an active role in the move to Sage Intacct, helping to set up reporting, dimensions and processes that will scale as new sites are acquired and brought onto the platform. In addition, you will carry out regular reviews of controls and processes, while providing broader support to the Finance Manager and the wider finance team as required.

About You

The ideal candidate will have experience within student accommodation, build-to-rent, residential lettings or a wider multi-site property business. You will possess strong written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable adapting your approach when working with different stakeholders, from site teams to senior management. A solid understanding of the structure and purpose of financial reports is essential, alongside strong Excel skills. You will be proactive, highly organised, and capable of coordinating multiple tasks and priorities, with a strong sense of ownership and the confidence to manage responsibilities independently.
