I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Core responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and variance analysis
  • Manage and prepare weekly site KPI reports
  • Prepare annual budgets and quarterly re-forecasts
  • Monitor capital project spend and post-completion reviews
  • Manage and prepare month-end and year-end tasks
  • Ensure site compliance is aligned with company internal controls
  • Support the Head of Finance with ad-hoc financial requirements

The successful candidate will bring extensive experience working with both financial and non-financial stakeholders and will thrive in a fast-paced, international environment, consistently delivering to tight deadlines.

Those coming from a similar Industry-based background or those looking to make the move from Practice into Industry will all be considered. Similarly, those who are Fully Qualified, Part-Qualified or Qualified by Experience will all be considered. Greater focus is simply being placed on those who can demonstrate previous experience in the aforementioned key areas of responsibility. For those who are currently in Practice though, this would be a fantastic 1st move into Industry, offering a nice mix of both reporting and commercially focused duties and responsibilities.
