Management Accountant, Investment Management

12 to 14 month FTC

£50,000 - £65,000 depending on experience (part qualified up to newly qualified)

Our client are a leading investment management firm with multiple offices and considerable assets under management in the billions across multiple funds, investing into portfolio companies across a range of sectors.

About the Role

Looking for a Management Accountant on a 12 to 14 month FTC to support their existing in-house Finance team of six people. The role has arisen due to planned maternity absence. The successful candidate will report into and work closely with the Head of Finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviewing accounting journals ahead of posting to SAGE Intacct. Ad-hoc posting of journals may be required.
  • Supporting the preparation of the monthly management accounts.
  • Supporting finance reporting processes for the group and its subsidiaries including the preparation and review of statutory financial statements.
  • Preparing bank reconciliations for assigned business units. Acting as cover for preparing payment runs in periods of annual leave for staff.
  • Preparing monthly expense analysis, including comparisons against budget, forecast, and prior periods, and investigating significant or unusual variances.
  • Calculating, posting, and reconciling monthly expense accruals, ensuring that appropriate supporting documentation is maintained.
  • Preparing balance-sheet reconciliations and investigating outstanding or reconciling items.
  • Liaising with colleagues across the business and with relevant third-party service providers, including fund administrators and suppliers, to resolve finance-related queries.
  • Escalating significant variances, unresolved differences, and potential control issues to the Head of Finance in a timely manner.
  • Supporting automation and process-improvement initiatives as required.

Skills, Competencies and Experience Required

  • Newly qualified OR latter stage part-qualified management accountant with at least two to three years relevant accounting experience.
  • Experience within the asset management or wider financial services sector would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Excellent understanding of core accounting principles, including double-entry bookkeeping, accrual accounting, and balance-sheet reconciliations.
  • Practical experience preparing and posting journals, accruals, and other month-end adjustments.
  • Experience performing expense analysis and investigating variances against budget, forecast, and prior periods.
  • Strong reconciliation skills, with the ability to identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ability to coordinate recurring payment, reconciliation, and reporting processes, ensuring they are completed accurately and on time.
  • Experience using Sage Intacct, FloQast, or Yooz would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Strong Excel skills and a high level of numerical, analytical, and problem-solving ability.
  • The ability to explain financial information and expenditure movements clearly to finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines during month-end and other key reporting cycles.
  • A process-improvement mindset, with an interest in improving efficiency, strengthening existing controls, and supporting automation.
  • Good interpersonal, communication, diplomacy, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within the Finance team and across different business functions.
  • Personal integrity, discretion, and sensitivity to the confidential nature of the work undertaken.
  • Consistently high attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate supporting documentation and audit trails.

Role will also include a 10-15% completion bonus at the end of the contract.
