The Role

Our client, a growing SME based in Chester, are looking for an experienced Management Accountant to deliver accurate and timely month-end accounts for review. In addition, you will support the Group Financial Controller by managing and developing junior finance employees, improving processes, reporting, and communication, and acting as a bridge between senior finance employees and the wider finance team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of monthly management accounts up to the point of review by FC
  • Monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Preparation and posting of journals, including accruals, prepayments, loans, etc.
  • Fixed asset accounting and maintenance of the asset register
  • Reporting and variance analysis
  • Month-end processes and reporting
  • VAT return preparation
  • Processing payment runs
  • Responsible for control of AP/AR ledgers
  • Assisting in cost centre reviews and budgetary controls
  • Supporting external audit and responding to audit queries
  • Reviewing and analysing credit control activities
  • Ensuring the finance function operates efficiently and effectively on a day-to-day basis
  • Delegating tasks and managing workload across sales and purchase ledger clerks
  • Handling internal queries and communicating financial information to non-finance stakeholders
  • Management of team including 1-1s with focus on upskilling

  • ACCA/CIMA/ACA qualified, part-qualified, or studying, with strong hands-on month-end experience
  • Experience of working within a business that undergoes external audit
  • Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas) and good general system proficiency
  • Proven experience at Management Accountant level with strong technical accounting capability
  • A mindset of continuous improvement, with the ability to identify and implement process enhancements
  • Highly organised, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to manage relationships across multiple internal stakeholders
  • Ability to allocate tasks and oversee the operational workload of sales and purchase ledger clerks
  • Comfortable managing a team
