The Accountant
The Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring EMJ has accurate, timely, and insightful financial information to support strategic decision-making. This role is responsible for delivering robust monthly management accounts, driving financial accuracy, and providing clear analysis of business performance to support growth, profitability, and operational efficiency.
What You’ll Do
- Month-End Close & Management Accounts (Core Deliverable): Own the month-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely management accounts, including accruals, prepayments, journals, reconciliations, and departmental cost analysis.
- Financial Analysis & Reporting: Produce monthly management reports, including budget and forecast variance analysis, with clear commentary on performance, risks, opportunities, and key trends.
- Balance Sheet Integrity & Controls: Own balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accounts are fully reconciled, reviewed, supported, and audit-ready, with discrepancies resolved promptly.
- Cash Flow & Cash Management: Review cash flow forecasts, provide insight on variances to prior forecasts, and ensure sufficient funding across entities through effective cash management.
- Payroll Processing & Reconciliation: Manage payroll and commission processing, ensuring accurate payroll postings, reconciliations, and fully supported payroll balances.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Support annual budgets and rolling forecasts, working with stakeholders to ensure accurate assumptions and ongoing performance monitoring.
- Review and Development of Finance Assistant: Conduct regular 1:1s, provide coaching and feedback, and support the ongoing development and increased responsibility of the Finance Assistant.
- Process Improvement & Financial Controls: Drive continuous improvement of financial processes, controls, reporting, and automation to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Cash-In KPI Responsibility: Own cash-in KPI reporting, providing analysis, insights, and recommendations to improve performance where targets are not achieved.
- Tax & Compliance Responsibilities: Ensure all tax and compliance obligations are met on time, working with local accountants to support accurate statutory reporting.

Who You Are
- Qualified Accountant: ACCA, CIMA, or ACA qualified with a strong understanding of accounting principles and their practical application in a commercial environment.
- Month-End & Reporting Experience: Proven experience managing month-end processes, including management accounts, journals, accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations.
- Financial Analysis & Excel Skills: Strong analytical abilities with advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial data analysis.
- Stakeholder Management & Business Partnering: Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders, challenge constructively, and explain financial information in a clear, commercial manner.
Key Information
- Salary: £45,000-£50,000
- Reports to: Finance Director
- Hours: 8.30am – 5pm, Mon-Fri
- Working pattern: Hybrid, 3 days in the office (5 days in the office during probation)
- Location: This role is based onsite in our London/Moorgate office
