Build Your Career Beyond Management Accounts
Are you an experienced Management Accountant looking for a role where you can genuinely influence a growing business and develop into a senior finance leader? We're looking for a commercially minded Management Accountant to join a successful group of companies with a combined turnover of more than £30 million. Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, you'll play a key role in producing management accounts, leading a small finance team, and helping drive financial performance across the business.
This is more than a traditional management accounting role. You'll gain exposure to commercial decision-making, strategic planning, and leadership, supported by a structured mentoring programme designed to help you progress over the next 2–3 years.
What You'll Be Doing
Approximately 80% accounting and finance and 20% people management, your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing monthly management accounts across multiple group companies.
- Working closely with the Head of Finance and Directors to provide meaningful financial reporting and analysis.
- Leading, mentoring and supporting a finance team of three.
- Managing daily cash flow, forecasting and monitoring liquidity.
- Coordinating the monthly reporting timetable and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Preparing bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations and monthly accruals.
- Maintaining the fixed asset register and accounting for depreciation and asset disposals.
- Reviewing debtor and creditor reports to improve cash collection and supplier management.
- Preparing quarterly VAT returns and ensuring all HMRC submissions (VAT, PAYE, NIC and PSA) are completed accurately and on time.
- Supporting year-end accounts and liaising with external auditors.
- Approving weekly and monthly payment runs, including payroll.
- Working closely with operational teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Driving continuous improvement across finance processes and controls.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
