Management Accountant – Manchester
£45,000 – £50,000
The Role
Sowena Group are exclusively partnered with an exciting and growing group business in their search for a Management Accountant to join their wider finance function.
This is a broad role offering exposure across both the core finance function and the wider commercial side of the business. You’ll take ownership of a number of P&L and balance sheet areas, support group reporting and work closely with operational and senior stakeholders to provide clear insight into financial performance.
The role would suit a qualified accountant who enjoys more than simply producing the numbers and wants to understand the story behind them. You’ll have the opportunity to work across multiple areas of the group, contribute to budgeting and forecasting, and play an important role in identifying risks, opportunities and areas for improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of monthly P&L reporting across a number of business areas.
- Prepare and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring movements are understood and accurately reflected.
- Prepare accruals, prepayments and provisions, maintaining clear supporting schedules and audit trails.
- Support the Finance Manager with group P&L reporting and detailed variance analysis.
- Analyse monthly performance against budget and prior year, identifying key drivers and areas requiring further investigation.
- Own the reporting and accounting for group agent commissions, rebates and royalties.
- Prepare budgets and financial forecasts, supporting the wider finance team throughout the planning process.
- Act as a key point of contact for Country Managers and operational teams, providing financial information and explaining performance in a clear and accessible way.
- Work closely with the wider finance team to understand financial movements and ensure reporting is accurate and delivered on time.
- Identify risks and opportunities within the balance sheet and P&L, taking ownership of follow-up actions where required.
- Contribute to wider group reporting and ad hoc analysis as the business requires.
- Support continuous improvement across financial reporting processes and controls.

Requirements
- ACA qualified.
- Excellent understanding of core accounting principles, reconciliations and month-end processes.
- Strong Excel skills with the ability to analyse and manipulate financial data effectively.
- Confident communicator with the ability to present financial information and explain variances to non-finance stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Previous experience within retail, consumer or a similar fast-paced environment would be advantageous.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics would be beneficial but is not essential.
