About Fussy
Hey good smelling! We're Fussy…about everything in our mission to banish single-use plastic from your bathroom. Having experienced exceptional growth over the past five years, we are now looking for a talented individual to join the team as Management Accountant.
You'll report to our Financial Controller, working together to continue to build finance processes that are accurate, automated and ready to scale with us.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a scale-up through a significant period of growth. You'll own how money moves through the business day to day, and be a trusted partner to the finance team and the wider business 💪🌍
What You’ll Do 💼
- Own our financial operations end to end, keeping the process accurate, timely and well controlled
- Run the accounts payable process, overseeing supplier queries, payment runs and supplier statement reconciliations
- Manage expenses and VAT: company card and employee expense claims, plus VAT returns, keeping policy compliance, coding and deadlines on track
- Play a hands-on role in month end: preparing journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations to hit the close timetable, and supporting the Financial Controller in resolving variances before numbers reach the leadership team
- Find and implement automation and system improvements that cut manual work and make our finance processes scalable
- Keep clear process documentation and controls in place, and support audit and year-end requests
Who You Are 🤓
Great comes in lots of different forms, and we’re really open to seeing candidates from a range of backgrounds. Given the nature of this role and what we’ll ask of you, we do believe that the following skills are needed to be able to deliver to a high standard:
- A strong grasp of accounting fundamentals, ideally with a qualification or part-qualification (e.g. ACCA, ACA, CIMA or AAT) or equivalent hands-on experience
- Proven experience of month-end close, including journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations
- A clear understanding of the end-to-end accounts payable process
- Keen attention to detail, with the discipline to check your work and spot what doesn't add up
- An open mind to automation, and the curiosity to find better, faster ways of doing things

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

See breakdownIt searches the market for you
Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Bonus points, but these are not a deal breaker:
- Experience with cloud accounting and AP automation tools (e.g. Xero, NetSuite, Dext)
- Experience in an e-commerce, FMCG or consumer brand business
- Experience working in a fast-growing scale-up
This isn't the right role for you if…
- You'd rather work in a purely strategic role than get stuck into the detail of the day-to-day and month end
- You prefer to follow established processes rather than build and improve them
- You don't like working in fast-paced and changeable environments (this is start-up life, after all).
What we offer 🤝
- A chance to play a part in banishing single-use plastic from the bathroom
- A salary of £40-50k depending on experience
