Management Accountant

Location: Birmingham (Hybrid Working Available)
Salary: £50,000
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Management Accountant to join a growing manufacturing business based in Birmingham.

Reporting to the Finance Director, you'll take ownership of the month-end process, management accounts and financial reporting, whilst partnering with operational teams to provide meaningful financial insight and support business performance.

This is a broad, hands-on role offering exposure to all areas of finance within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in the detail whilst also contributing to strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Management Accounts & Month-End

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reporting.
  • Complete month-end close activities, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  • Post and review accruals, prepayments, depreciation, payroll journals and other month-end adjustments.
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances.
  • Prepare monthly reporting packs with commentary and analysis.
  • Maintain and manage the fixed asset register.

Reporting & Business Partnering

  • Partner with operational managers and departmental heads.
  • Provide commercial insight and analysis to support decision-making.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting and cash flow planning.
  • Monitor KPIs and provide recommendations to improve performance.
  • Support business growth initiatives and capital investment decisions.

Cash, Treasury & Controls

  • Prepare cash flow forecasts and monitor working capital.
  • Support banking and treasury activities.
  • Complete intercompany reconciliations.
  • Ensure robust financial controls are maintained.
  • Review and improve finance processes where appropriate.

Compliance & Audit

  • Prepare and submit VAT returns.
  • Support year-end statutory accounts and external audits.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies and relevant legislation.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred but not essential.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge.

Experience & Skills

  • Experience preparing full monthly management accounts.
  • Strong month-end and balance sheet reconciliation experience.
  • Budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis experience.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing, engineering or product-led environment.
  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, lookups and financial modelling.
