Overall Purpose

This 16-month fixed-term maternity cover role supports the Faculty of Humanities, playing a key role as part of business partnering finance team.

The role will deliver accurate monthly management accounts, coordinate budgeting and forecasting, and provide clear financial insight to budget holders and senior academic and PS colleagues. Through collaborative business partnering, robust financial control and continuous improvement, the postholder will help colleagues understand financial performance, manage risks and make well-informed decisions.

About The Team

The Faculty of Humanities Finance Team provides professional financial management, reporting and business-partnering support across the Faculty. This role works closely with academic and professional services colleagues, budget holders, School leadership and the wider Directorate of Finance.

The postholder will contribute to a supportive, collaborative team and help deliver a consistent, customer-focused finance service across the University.

Key Accountabilities

• Managing the preparation and review of monthly management accounts, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
• Deliver and communicate clear financial analysis and management information that enables budget holders and senior colleagues to understand performance and take appropriate action.
• Coordinating financial planning, budgeting and forecasting for the assigned areas within business partnering areas
• Partnering with budget holders and School colleagues to improve financial awareness, understand business drivers and support effective decision-making.
• Identifying and communicating financial risks, opportunities and the full financial implications of proposed initiatives.
• Supporting the preparation of costings and financial information for business plans, developments and other activities.
• Ensuring financial operations, reconciliations, journals and other accounting activity are completed accurately, promptly and in line with University requirements.
• Providing practical advice and guidance to colleagues on financial procedures, change projects, controls and compliance.
• Developing and improving management information, processes and ways of working to enhance the quality and efficiency of the finance service.
• Leading, supporting and developing finance team colleagues where line-management responsibility is assigned.
• Deputising for the relevant senior finance lead when required and contributing flexibly to Faculty and Directorate priorities.
