Your new role

As Management Accountant, you will play a key role within the Management Accounting team, acting as a trusted finance business partner to assigned services. Reporting to the Management Accountancy Team Leader, you will provide high-quality financial analysis, advice and reporting to support effective budget management, service improvement and change initiatives.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting services with budget setting, forecasting and monitoring
  • Investigating and explaining variances
  • Ensuring the achievement of approved savings
  • Contributing to business cases, performance reporting, medium- and long-term financial planning, and the preparation of service final accounts
  • Completing statutory and other financial returns
  • Supporting the production of the annual accounts in collaboration with corporate finance colleagues
  • Providing direction and support to a small team
  • Engaging regularly with senior managers, auditors and external stakeholders

What you'll need to succeed

You must be a professionally qualified accountant (CCAB or CIMA) with proven experience in a similar management accounting or financial environment. A strong understanding of accounting standards, legislative requirements and financial governance is essential, along with the ability to remain up to date with technical developments.

You will bring:

  • Excellent communication skills, enabling you to explain complex financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders
  • Strong analytical capability, high attention to detail, and advanced spreadsheet skills
  • Experience of working with financial ledger systems
  • Organisational skills, adaptability, and the ability to work to tight deadlines with competing priorities
  • Leadership capability, initiative, and a commitment to continuous improvement
  • Experience within a public sector or local authority environment
