Join Our Finance Team

We are seeking an ambitious and capable Management Accountant to support the Finance Manager in delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong financial controls and providing insight to support business performance.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an AAT-qualified individual who is looking to develop their career towards a qualified accountant position and commence professional studies (CIMA or ACCA). The successful candidate will take ownership of key month-end processes, balance sheet reconciliations and financial analysis whilst supporting continuous improvement across the finance function.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Month-End

  • Take ownership of assigned month-end close activities to support timely and accurate reporting.
  • Prepare and post month-end journals.
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations and investigate reconciling items.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts.
  • Assist in the preparation of variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior periods.
  • Support the preparation of monthly reporting packs and KPIs.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data and accounting records.

Purchase Ledger & Supplier Management

  • Provide support and cover for accounts payables activities.

Sales Ledger & Credit Control

  • Provide support and cover for Accounts Receivable activities.

Sales Reporting

  • Produce daily sales report including cashflow headlines.

Banking & Cash Management

  • Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations across multiple accounts.
  • Support cash flow forecasting and reporting.
  • Investigate unreconciled banking items and ensure timely resolution.

Manufacturing & Operational Finance

  • Support stock accounting processes and inventory reconciliations.
  • Support operational managers with financial information and analysis.

Compliance, Audit & Process Improvement

  • Assist with the preparation and submission of VAT returns.
  • Support annual audit and tax compliance requirements.
  • Prepare audit schedules and respond to auditor requests.
  • Support intercompany accounting and reconciliations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial controls, processes, and automation.
  • Participate in finance systems enhancements and process improvement projects.

Essential Skills & Attributes

  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Resilient under pressure and able to handle confidential information.
  • Strong MS Office skills and confidence using finance systems.
  • Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar accounting role.
  • Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Experience preparing journals.
  • Strong Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, lookups, and data analysis.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional accounting qualification CIMA / AAT Level 4 qualified (or working towards) or equivalent.
  • GCSE Maths and English (essential).
  • Proven experience as a Finance Assistant or similar role.
  • Payroll processing experience preferred.
  • Experience within a manufacturing, engineering, or PE-backed environment.
  • Experience using ERP/accounting systems.
  • Exposure to stock accounting and management accounts preparation.
  • Experience supporting audit and VAT processes.
