Isca Recruitment is delighted to be recruiting for a proactive individual to join a dynamic professional services business as the Management Accountant at their Exeter office.

Working as a key part of a friendly team, this is an opportunity for an individual with management accounting experience to further develop their experience with a growing professional business. Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Management Accountant will be responsible for preparing the management accounts for the group’s businesses, analysing financial performance, and supporting strategic decision-making across the business.

Management Accountant – Responsibilities

  • Preparing monthly management accounts including variance analysis, including accruals, prepayments, journals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Assisting with budgeting and forecasting.
  • Responsible for VAT returns and statutory reporting submissions.
  • Supporting the preparation, review, and processing of payroll data and timely posting of payroll journals.
  • Approving purchase invoices and ensure accurate coding.
  • Assisting with internal and external audits and compliance checks.
  • Supporting cost analysis, providing budget holders with monthly breakdowns of costs.
  • Contributing to system improvements, process improvements, and automation within the finance function.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior finance staff, with the long-term potential to progress into a leadership role.
  • Collaborating closely with operational teams and the wider finance function to improve reporting, processes, and overall financial control.

Salary: £40,000 – £45,000pa depending on experience

Benefits: 25 days holiday + Bank holidays increasing with length of service, bonus of up to 7.5%, study support if desired, life assurance, pension, free parking and a long term and rewarding career in an expanding business!

Hours: Mon – Fri, 37.5 hours some flexibility on start and finish times

Location: Office (outskirts of Exeter) / home based – 2 days per week wfh

Management Accountant – The Person

  • Recent experience of month end duties including journals, reconciliations and supporting the preparation of management accounts.
  • Strong reconciliation and analysis skills.
  • Proactive approach to work, willing to get stuck in with a good team spirit.
  • Highly competent IT skills, including use of Excel (look ups and pivot tables, large data sets) and accounting software.
  • Confident interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Able to plan and prioritise own work, able to work unsupervised.
  • Self-starter with a desire to work in a fast-paced business, and ambition to grow with the business.
  • Keen to learn and enthusiasm to take on new challenges.
  • AAT qualified, ACA, ACCA or CIMA part-qualified accountant preferred, although applications from candidates with the necessary experience who are qualified by experience are also welcome.
