Central Employment is delighted to be supporting a Sunderland-based Manufacturing business with the recruitment of a Management Accountant. As a Management Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting the financial performance of the business through accurate reporting, insightful analysis, and robust financial control.

Working closely with the Financial Controller, Finance Business Partner, and operational stakeholders, you will help deliver high-quality management information, provide meaningful commercial insight, and contribute to continuous improvement across finance processes.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Control

  • Prepare and maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations across designated areas, including more complex accounts.
  • Investigate, analyse, and challenge balances to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.
  • Post accruals, prepayments, and other month-end journals to support timely and accurate management accounts.
  • Assist in the preparation of management accounts and monthly reporting deliverables.
  • Support the production of management information packs, ensuring outputs are accurate, insightful, and clearly presented.

  • Produce departmental reporting and provide analysis to support operational and financial decision-making.
  • Build effective relationships with department heads, offering constructive challenge and insight into cost trends and performance.
  • Support Finance Business Partners during budget and forecast cycles, helping to explain variances and identify key drivers of financial performance.
  • Develop a strong understanding of both internal and external factors that influence business performance and financial results.

Process Improvement & Risk Management

  • Develop and maintain process documentation to support a robust control environment.
  • Identify control weaknesses, recommend improvements, and support implementation of enhanced processes.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements, assisting in the development of business cases where required.
  • Highlight financial risks, issues, and opportunities to management in a timely manner.

Team Support & Projects

  • Provide guidance and support to junior team members, including reviewing work and sharing best practice when required.
  • Contribute to finance and business improvement projects.
  • Support the wider finance team with ad hoc analysis, reporting, and project work as required.

About You

You will be a proactive and commercially-minded finance professional with strong analytical skills and a desire to add value beyond the numbers. You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, building relationships across the business, and using data to support informed decision-making.

Experience & Skills

  • Previous experience within a Management Accountant or similar finance role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial information.
  • Confident communicator with excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to challenge figures, processes, and assumptions constructively.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite would be beneficial.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Collaborative approach with a continuous improvement mindset.

Qualifications

  • Part-qualified and actively studying towards a recognised accounting qualification such as CIMA or AAT.
  • Equivalent relevant management accounting experience will also be considered.
