Management Accountant

Merrifield Consultants is delighted to be partnering with an international health charity to recruit a Management Accountant. This role will take ownership of the UK management accounts process and provide clear, accurate financial information to senior leaders and trustees.

Working closely with the Director of Finance in London and finance colleagues overseas, the Management Accountant will manage reporting from journals and reconciliations through to completed management accounts. The role also covers detailed variance analysis, audit preparation and the day to day oversight of key financial operations.

Salary: £45,000 to £50,000 per annum, pro rata
Contract: 3 month temporary contract with a temp to perm option
Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week
Location: Hybrid, London

Key responsibilities

  • Management accounts: Produce accurate monthly accounts, completing journals, balance sheet reconciliations and financial statements within agreed deadlines.
  • Reporting and analysis: Prepare clear reports for senior management and trustees, with meaningful commentary on budgets, prior year performance and emerging variances.
  • Financial operations: Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, cash reporting and bank reconciliations.
  • Budgeting and forecasting: Support annual budget setting and work with department heads to monitor performance and improve financial planning.
  • Audit and compliance: Prepare audit documentation, respond to queries and support compliance with UK GAAP, Charity SORP, VAT, payroll and other statutory requirements.

About you

  • Qualified or approaching qualification: You will be newly qualified or a finalist studying towards ACCA, CIMA or an equivalent accountancy qualification.
  • Strong technical grounding: You will have experience producing management accounts, completing reconciliations and delivering detailed variance analysis.
  • Charity finance knowledge: A sound understanding of UK GAAP and Charity SORP is important, alongside familiarity with audit and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Confident systems user: You will be comfortable using financial management software and advanced Excel, with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Clear and dependable: You will bring excellent attention to detail, sound judgement and the ability to explain financial information to a range of stakeholders.
  • International outlook: Experience working across currencies, cultures or time zones would be useful, as would an open approach to new technology and more efficient ways of working.
