I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
A Big Part of the Opportunity
The business is continuing to scale across DTC, TikTok, Amazon and other channels, and some existing finance and stock processes are still manual. They want someone who will come in with energy and curiosity, spot where things could work better and help improve the systems behind areas such as:
- Stock and inventory reporting
- Marketplace reconciliation
- Financial data flow between different sales channels
- Manual processes that can be streamlined or automated
This isn’t a role for someone who only wants to review the numbers once they’ve been produced. You’ll need to be comfortable getting involved, understanding the detail and helping fix problems at source.
What We’re Looking For
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, or nearly qualified with one exam remaining
- Strong experience producing management accounts
- Confident with P&L, balance sheets, cashflow, stock and bank reconciliations
- Excellent working knowledge of Sage 50 – this is essential and non-negotiable
- Strong Excel skills
- Comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-moving environment
- Someone naturally proactive who looks for ways to improve processes rather than simply maintain them
- Experience within Beauty, FMCG, Consumer, Manufacturing or E-commerce would be highly advantageous
