If you're an experienced Management Consulting Manager within the insurance sector and like the idea of joining a fast-growing, entrepreneurial consultancy where you'll get genuine exposure, responsibility and opportunity, this could be a very interesting next move.

Our client is a highly regarded global financial services consultancy with a growing General Insurance & Specialty practice. The business has grown by approximately 20% year-on-year for each of the last two years, is actively acquiring complementary businesses and has ambitious plans to double in size over the coming years.

Why is this different?

If you're currently working within one of the larger consulting firms, you'll recognise some of the work. What may feel very different is the environment in which you'll be doing it.

Teams are deliberately smaller, giving Managers greater exposure to senior clients and more responsibility earlier in their careers. The structure is less rigid than the traditional Partner/Director hierarchy found in many larger consultancies, creating an environment where good ideas are heard and ambitious people can make an impact.

It's entrepreneurial, collaborative and growing quickly. If you're someone who enjoys taking ownership rather than simply operating within a large corporate structure, you'll likely feel at home here.

That entrepreneurial culture doesn't come at the expense of development. The firm invests heavily in its people through structured corporate training, professional qualifications and ongoing mentoring, with genuine opportunities to develop your career as the business grows.

The role

You'll join the London General Insurance & Specialty team, working as part of a much larger global consulting business.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

As a Manager, you'll lead consulting engagements for major insurers, brokers and other organisations across the insurance market. Projects are varied and strategic and could include areas such as:

  • Underwriting and distribution strategy
  • Claims transformation
  • Target Operating Model design
  • Business and operational transformation
  • Broking and distribution
  • Technology and data-enabled transformation
  • Process and operating model improvement
  • Cost optimisation and wider strategic change

You'll manage project teams, structure and oversee client deliverables, facilitate workshops, manage senior stakeholders and mentor more junior consultants.

You'll also be encouraged to think commercially: identifying opportunities, developing client relationships and contributing ideas to the continued growth of the practice.

Who are we looking for?

There is one particularly important requirement for this position:

You must already be operating at Manager level within a management consultancy.

This isn't intended as a first move into consulting from an insurer, nor is it a step-up opportunity for someone who has only worked internally on change programmes. The client is specifically looking for an experienced consulting Manager who understands how to structure and deliver strategic consulting engagements for clients.

You'll ideally bring:

  • Strong management consulting experience within General Insurance
  • Current experience operating at Manager level
  • Experience leading consulting projects and managing project teams
  • Exposure to areas such as underwriting, distribution strategy, claims transformation, Target Operating Models or wider insurance transformation
  • Strong client-facing and stakeholder-management skills
  • Experience coaching and developing junior consultants
  • Commercial awareness and an interest in contributing to business development
  • The confidence to operate with senior insurance stakeholders
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and a desire to help build and grow a consulting practice

The working environment

This is a business that values being together. While there is flexibility, they are looking for someone who wants to spend meaningful time with colleagues in the London office and on client sites, rather than someone seeking a predominantly home-based consulting role.

For the right person, that's part of the attraction: smaller teams, greater exposure, closer client relationships and the opportunity to become an important part of a rapidly growing practice.

If you've built your career within insurance management consulting but are attracted by the idea of moving away from the rigid structures of a huge consultancy into something smaller, faster-growing and more entrepreneurial — without sacrificing the quality or scale of the work — we'd be very interested in speaking with you.

Compensation

You’ll be rewarded with a basic salary of up to £110K, plus bonus and a comprehensive range of benefits.
