About the Role

Meraki Talent is delighted to be supporting a well-established transport and infrastructure organisation in the appointment of a Management/Operations Accountant to join its Finance team paying up to £50,000 p.a and offering a 35-hour week with flexible start/finish times.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant looking to combine strong financial control experience with commercial analysis and business partnering within a fast-paced operational environment. Reporting to the FP&A Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in monitoring operational performance, supporting strategic decision-making, and leading a Finance Analyst.

The Role

The Operations Accountant will support the FP&A Manager in delivering accurate financial reporting, analysing and operational performance.

The role combines month-end financial control responsibilities with forward-looking budgeting, forecasting, and business partnering activities, providing significant exposure to senior operational stakeholders and key decision makers throughout the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyse operational expenditure against budgets, forecasts, and historical trends.
  • Deliver detailed month-end variance analysis across direct operating and fixed costs.
  • Take ownership of monthly balance sheet reconciliations relating to operational activities.
  • Review reconciliations prepared by direct reports and investigate any anomalies.
  • Support the preparation of monthly risks and opportunities reporting.
  • Act as an escalation point for supplier queries, disputed invoices, and outstanding credit notes.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes in collaboration with departmental stakeholders.
  • Support investment appraisals, tender submissions, and business case development.
  • Provide meaningful financial insight and analysis to operational teams and senior management.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across finance processes, controls, and reporting.
  • Support governance and compliance activities within the FP&A function.
  • Represent Finance at operational meetings, projects, and business initiatives.
  • Assist with audit preparation and key finance projects as required.

Candidate Profile

  • ACCA, CIMA, ICAS or equivalent qualified.
  • Relevant post-qualified experience within management accounting, FP&A, or commercial finance.
  • Strong financial analysis and business partnering capability.
  • Experience presenting financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large datasets and financial models.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to challenge, influence, and support operational decision making.
  • Experience within a complex operational environment would be advantageous.
  • Transport, logistics, engineering, manufacturing, or infrastructure sector experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
