Manager – Alternatives Funds Tax (Specialising in Real Estate)

Location: London & Other locations Service Line: FS CTAC (Financial Services, Corporate Tax and Advisory Services) Experience Level: Manager Employment Type: Full Time or Part Time Contract Type: Permanent

About the Role

The KPMG Alternatives team delivers high-quality tax advisory and compliance services to the Alternative Investment Fund sector, including private equity, hedge funds, credit funds, and real estate funds. With ongoing growth, we seek exceptional candidates for a role focused on Real Estate tax.

This posting is well-suited for driven and motivated candidates with:

  • Experience in Real Estate or the Alternative Investment Funds sector, or
  • A strong interest in developing Real Estate tax as a specialism.

We also welcome applications from candidates with experience in tax teams covering Real Estate, or from thosewith experience in tax roles across UK corporation tax, partnership tax, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

As a Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing tax advisory services: Providing comprehensive tax advice on UK and international tax matters relevant to the Real Estate sector, including UK corporation tax and partnership tax matters, reviewing work prepared by team members.
  • Technical research: Conducting in-depth research on legislation, case law, and HMRC manuals to ensure accuracy.
  • Leadership of tax processes: Offering end-to-end ownership of corporation tax and partnership tax projects, including reviewing drafts prepared by team members.
  • Team management & coaching: Supporting, coaching, and developing junior team members on both technical and interpersonal matters.
  • Client engagement: Conducting client meetings and calls, maintaining open communication, and building long-term client relationships.
  • Interaction with HMRC: Communicating with HMRC via telephone, letter, and other channels.
  • Client portfolio management: Ensuring tax advisory and compliance needs are met proactively, including reviewing relevant tax developments to discuss with clients.
  • Collaboration: Working collaboratively within the Alternatives team (UK and global KPMG offices), adapting approach and style for optimal results.
  • Business development: Driving initiatives to expand the team’s client base and service offerings.

Relevant Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Qualification: Hold a Chartered Accountant (CA/ACA) designation or equivalent, Chartered Tax Advisor qualification, or be a UK solicitor.
  • ** motivated professional** keen to specialise in Real Estate taxation while contributing to a fast-growing Alternatives team. Strong commitment to personal development and career progression to Senior Manager level.
  • Track record: Experience in managing delivery of tax advisory and compliance services for clients. Preferable (though not essential) experience in Real Estate or Alternative Investment Funds.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead day-to-day team delivery, including managing competing deadlines, communicating effectively with colleagues, and influencing clients under pressure.
  • Technical expertise: Strong command of UK corporation tax rules with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly in writing and verbally.
  • Attention to detail: Consistently delivering high-quality written work with meticulous accuracy.
