Job Description
Grant Thornton is part of a fast-growing and rapidly evolving international platform, bringing together specialist teams across the UK, Ireland, the US and an expanding global network of member firms. This creates opportunities for our people to work on complex, cross-border assignments, collaborate with leading specialists across the network and build expertise across the full spectrum of UK and international tax services. From Belfast, our team supports a diverse client base that includes owner-managed businesses, large corporates and multinational groups, giving our people exposure to some of the most interesting and complex tax challenges in the market while benefiting from the scale, resources and opportunities of a growing international platform.
The Grant Thornton Advisors (NI) Tax Team is a team of over 90 specialists with deep industry, sector and technical knowledge. Within this, our Corporate Transactions Tax Advisory (TTA) practice supports clients through key corporate events and advises on some of the region’s most significant and high-profile transactions.
Our TTA team provides specialist tax support across acquisitions, disposals, restructurings, fundraisings, management buyouts, private equity transactions and other strategic corporate matters. Working closely with corporate finance, legal and wider advisory teams, we help clients identify and manage tax risks, consider deal structures and deliver clear, practical advice. The role spans buy-side and sell-side due diligence, SPA support, transaction structuring, financing and refinancing transactions, group reorganisations, post-deal integration and wider transaction-related tax advisory services.
To support increasing demand, we are continuing to build our Belfast TTA capability. The team offers the chance to be closely involved in live transaction work, contribute to a developing specialist practice and work alongside experienced tax and advisory professionals in a collaborative environment.
We are therefore seeking to recruit a Corporate Transactions Tax Advisory Manager to join the team. This is an opportunity for an ambitious and commercially minded corporate tax professional to develop further specialism in transaction tax advisory, take responsibility for delivery of transaction-related work, support junior colleagues and help shape the next stage of the practice’s development.
As a Manager, you will work closely with Associate Directors, Directors and Partners to deliver high-quality, commercially focused transaction tax advice. You will lead day-to-day project delivery, manage timelines and team coordination, and act as a key point of contact for clients and internal stakeholders. The role provides scope to deepen technical expertise, build strong relationships and play an active part in the continued development of the Belfast TTA offering.
Main Responsibilities
- Managing the day-to-day delivery of Transaction Tax Advisory engagements or substantial workstreams, with support from Associate Directors, Directors and Partners where required, ensuring timelines, quality, team coordination and client communications are progressed effectively.
- Taking ownership of project plans, priorities and delivery milestones, allocating work appropriately and ensuring issues are identified and escalated at an early stage.
- Owning day-to-day project client communication, including being proactive when information is received, progressing next steps and obtaining senior reviews where needed.
- Producing and reviewing high-quality, consistent written deliverables, including due diligence reports, structuring papers, technical analysis and client correspondence.
- Managing technical delivery on projects, including undertaking and reviewing research, applying judgement to transaction-related issues and clearly explaining conclusions.
- Actively managing project WIP, budgets and engagement economics, identifying risks early and supporting recovery through timely communication and practical action.
- Coaching junior team members through project work, providing clear instructions, reviewing output and giving constructive feedback.
- Building effective client and internal relationships, working collaboratively with colleagues across the wider tax team and other service lines to deliver integrated solutions.
- Supporting quality, risk management and compliance, ensuring work is delivered in accordance with professional standards, firm procedures and client expectations.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
