EHS Manager – Specs Operations

Our subsidiary, Specs Inc.—dedicated to making computing more human—is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to provide strategic leadership across global operations.


About the Role

This critical position will:

  • Set and drive a unified EHS strategy for Specs Operations, ensuring compliance and fostering a world-class safety culture.
  • Address manufacturing, R&D, engineering, and operational environments across locations, with potential assignment to London or Abingdon, UK.
  • Requires frequent travel to Abingdon (UK) and occasional travel to Chandler, Arizona, and other Specs locations to support initiatives.

What You’ll Do

EHS Strategy & Leadership

  • Lead the development, governance, and continuous improvement of EHS standards, programs, and strategic initiatives across Specs Operations.
  • Establish annual EHS objectives, key results, and performance indicators for Abingdon, Chandler, and other Specs locations.
  • Present EHS performance, risks, compliance status, and initiatives to senior leadership and executive stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership for EHS Specialists, including performance management, coaching, and succession planning.
  • Integrate EHS considerations into operational and business planning processes.
  • Build a high-performance safety culture focused on accountability and continuous improvement.

Governance, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Manage EHS management systems aligned with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, HSG65 principles, and corporate standards.
  • Oversee compliance with UK and U.S. regulatory standards across manufacturing, cleanroom, and R&D environments.
  • Establish governance processes for compliance audits, inspections, corrective actions, and management reviews.
  • Conduct enterprise-level risk assessments for high-hazard operations, including manufacturing and cleanrooms.

Manufacturing, R&D and High-Hazard Program Ownership

  • Lead EHS programs in manufacturing, engineering, R&D, cleanrooms, and operational functions, including:
    • Hazardous materials, hazardous waste, chemical safety
    • Machine safety, contractor safety, laser safety, industrial hygiene
    • Hazardous gas safety (storage, distribution, monitoring, and emergency response)
  • Partner with Engineering, Facilities, Manufacturing, and Operations teams to ensure EHS integration in design, procurements, and operational changes.
  • Provide EHS leadership for capital projects, facility expansions, and technology implementations.

Organizational Capability & Culture

  • Develop competency frameworks, training strategies, and leadership engagement programs.
  • Lead safety committees, emergency response teams, and forums to strengthen accountability.
  • Promote shared best practices and standardized methodologies across locations.

Program Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Establish EHS maturity assessments and improvement roadmaps.
  • Manage EHS budgets, resource planning, and project execution.
  • Leverage data analytics and leading indicators to optimize risk reduction and operational excellence.
  • Develop business cases for EHS investments, staffing, and initiatives.

Incident Management & Emergency Preparedness

  • Lead investigations of serious incidents, near misses, and high-potential events.
  • Ensure root cause analysis and sustain corrective actions.
  • Coordinate emergency response and EHS business continuity activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive EHS experience in manufacturing, R&D, cleanrooms, or advanced technology.
  • 3+ years leading EHS professionals or multi-site programs.
  • Expertise in EHS systems, regulatory compliance, risk management, and strategy.
  • Cross-location management experience (UK/US/varied jurisdictions ideal).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced certifications (NEBOSH Diploma, CSP, or CMIOSH).
  • International EHS program experience across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Experience in hardware, semiconductor, or advanced technology sectors.
