Job Purpose
UK Finance is the voice of the UK’s banking and finance industry and right now our international work matters significantly to our members. As the UK navigates a reset with the EU, deepens ties with the US and Japan, and takes on the G20 Presidency in 2027, this role sits right at the centre of our international priorities. You will manage our engagement across the US and Japan with the goal of addressing how UK financial services can do business across borders as efficiently as possible as the global regulatory landscape shifts. You will also line manage our intern covering international standard setting. This gives you the chance to develop as a people manager while keeping on top of the technical detail of what bodies like the Financial Stability Board (FSB), G20 and the Basel Committee are doing.
This is a crucial role in the International Affairs function. You will brief senior leaders ahead of high-profile meetings and build relationships with counterpart associations and policymakers abroad and in the UK. Given the nature of the role, please note that there will be occasions where overseas travel is required.
Key Responsibilities
Relationship Management
- Manage day-to-day engagement on our US and Japan work, identifying opportunities to advance members’ priorities with policymakers and counterpart associations in each market
- Line-manage our International Affairs intern, guiding their work tracking global standard-setting bodies (FSB, IOSCO, Basel Committee and others) and supporting their development
- Build and maintain relationships with sister organisations from the City of London Corporation and TheCityUK at home, to the European Banking Federation, International Banking Federation and national associations overseas
- Represent UK Finance in meetings with members of the policymaker community in the UK and abroad

Content Creation
- Prepare focused and impactful briefings, position papers and speaking notes for senior UK Finance representatives ahead of external engagements
- Draft members’ updates on international developments, translating dense political and regulatory shifts into clear analysis for our membership
- Develop UK Finance policy positions on emerging issues and opportunities in the area you cover
- Manage governance and reporting processes associated with international workstreams, including preparing updates for senior colleagues and relevant committees, including the UK Finance International Affairs Committee
Horizon Scanning
- Track and interpret political and regulatory developments across your markets, flagging what matters most to members early
- Contribute to the team’s wider thinking on market access and regulatory cooperation, helping identify and address barriers facing UK firms operating abroad
- Contribute flexibly to the wider work of the team as priorities develop.
Qualifications
As a minimum requirement, candidates should be able to demonstrate relevant professional experience in international affairs, public policy, financial services, regulatory affairs, government relations, trade policy, a trade association, consultancy, public body or comparable environment.

Either a Bachelor’s degree, equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline, or equivalent professional experience, will be required.
Skills and Competencies
- Experience in international affairs, public policy, financial services, government relations or a trade association environment
- Confidence managing relationships with a broad range of (senior) stakeholders, both internally and externally
- Strong organisational skills, particularly the ability to:
- Plan and prioritise own workload to meet agreed deadlines, sometimes at short notice
- Be a self-starter and act independently, comfortable taking ownership
- Strong ability to multitask
- Ability to identify problems, deliver solutions and drive forward their execution
- Excellent analytical, influencing and communications skills, both written and oral
- Understand how regulation is developed, both in the UK and internationally
- Some people management experience, or real enthusiasm to develop it
- High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and confidence using databases, trackers and collaboration tools
- Ability and willingness to undertake occasional overseas travel where required
