Job Description
Manager, Medical Analytics, R&D (London)
We are a global life reinsurer operating in Europe, Asia, Australia and North America, and are part of Pacific Life, a mutual insurance group. Fuelled by our pursuit of excellence and a quest to innovate, we’re proud to do things differently. Our people are not afraid to disrupt and challenge industry thinking and provide the best protection, savings and retirement reinsurance products and services possible.
Role Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager with strong technical skills and experience in biometric risk modelling to join the R&D Medical Analytics team. This is an exciting time to join as we build our insured annuities business and invest in the analytics, modelling and assumption-setting capability needed to support future growth. With access to rich health and underwriting data, you will play a key role in developing the assumptions, models and insights that underpin our individual and enhanced annuities proposition.
Medical Analytics is a multidisciplinary team that works at the intersection of insurance, health and data science. The team combines data-driven and medically-informed insights to support assumption setting, product development, pricing, underwriting and strategic decision-making. The team also assesses emerging developments across the health landscape, translating information from a range of sources into actionable business insights.
You will support the Head of Medical Analytics with managing and conducting health-related analytical projects, with a core remit of supporting basis development, pricing and underwriting rules for UK individual and enhanced annuities products. Responsibilities include planning, evidence synthesis, data sourcing, data analysis, model design, validation and results communication. As part of these projects, you will be transforming quantitative and qualitative analysis into assumptions and uplifts for use in the rest of the business. The role requires strong problem solving, project management and stakeholder management skills.
You will work closely with other teams including:
- Savings and Retirement and Protection teams inside the Reinsurance Division to support on pricing, product development and underwriting philosophy, and to ensure that the assumptions developed and analyses conducted meet their needs
- R&D teams including the Basis Development, Strategic Analytics teams, and R&D teams in other geographies across the Division

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
