About Affirm
At Affirm, we exist for the moments that matter—giving people a clear, predictable way to pay over time, with no hidden fees, no surprises, and no tradeoffs on what matters most.
About the Engineering Team
The Engineering team builds systems that power Affirm’s mission. We take pride in our craft, building reliable, performant, and scalable solutions that touch every part of the business. Whether we’re enabling new ways to pay, ensuring our platforms can scale to the most demanding levels in the industry, or developing seamless servicing experiences, our focus is on solving complex problems through exceptional engineering.
About the Role
Affirm’s Identity team is mission-critical to the customer checkout experience. When a customer chooses Affirm, one of the first steps is an identity check, and our ability to make the right decision directly impacts conversion, revenue, fraud exposure, and regulatory compliance.
Our team owns Identity for all markets outside North America, playing a key role in Affirm’s international expansion. We are responsible for KYC, user lifecycle management, and identity decisioning across multiple regulatory environments. As an Engineering Manager on our team, you’ll help shape how Affirm adapts its core Identity platform to new market dynamics, customer expectations, and compliance requirements.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and grow a well-balanced team of engineers – setting clear expectations, giving direct feedback, and developing each engineer toward their next level.
- Own the team’s technical strategy and multi-quarter roadmap, tying it to major experience initiatives that build customer trust and move Affirm’s business, including large-scale redesigns and structural improvements to the identity verification journey.
- Empower your tech lead and engineers to hold the design and quality bar, supporting them hands-on throughout technical design and cross-functional alignment.
- Own the availability, reliability, and performance of consumer-critical systems – on-call, incident response, and reducing operational toil.
- Drive alignment across multiple organizations and influence roadmaps on partner experience and foundational teams.
- Partner across Product, Design, and Analytics, and other Engineering teams, building trust and taking part in cross-functional efforts.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We Look For
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years managing and growing engineering teams.
- Proven experience delivering consumer-facing software and driving execution through ambiguity.
- Technical judgment required to guide architecture, quality, and reliability decisions, with the instinct to empower senior engineers to make the calls rather than making them all yourself.

- A calm, decisive presence through change and ambiguity – building alignment, resolving tensions, and leading others through complex decisions.
- A humble, team-first leader who builds a high-trust, psychologically safe culture, while also prioritizing your own growth.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance customer needs, business goals, and technical constraints.
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and organizational influence skills.
- Proven ability to build alignment and drive outcomes in complex environments without direct authority.
- Either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
