As a Manager in the Sourcing and Procurement practice, you will play a key role in growing the Deloitte presence in the Defence sector, shaping the procurement operations of Defence and directly delivering some of the most complex and impactful procurement projects.

Our Sourcing and Procurement practice helps clients design and deliver complex, high-value procurement projects whilst also advising how to transform Defence procurement operations to achieve client objectives within the context of the Strategic Defence Review and Defence Industrial Strategy.

To be successful in this role, you will work as part of a team of industry and capability specialists providing Technology and Transformation services to Defence clients. You will be instrumental in:

  • Leading and managing complex Defence procurement projects from strategy to execution.
  • Advising clients on transforming their procurement functions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Developing and maintaining strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor.
  • Contributing to business development activities, including proposal writing and market analysis.
  • Mentoring and developing junior team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.

We are seeking individuals that demonstrate a strong track record in Defence procurement or related Procurement transformation with a proven ability to apply knowledge, focusing on high quality even in high pressured, time critical situations.

As a Manager in our team, you will work closely alongside Senior Managers, Directors, and Partners. You will play a key role in influencing and shaping the strategic direction and development of the team and unlocking opportunities with clients, including the opportunity to:

  • Use your management capabilities to effectively manage small diverse workstreams, with an inclusive culture where people are recognised for their delivery of client work.
  • Lead client interactions and develop strong long-term client relationships as a trusted business advisor in the Defence sector.
  • Leverage your expertise to lead on workstreams or small projects, develop innovative thought leadership and support the growth of our business.
  • Play an active role in the recruitment and career development of more junior team members.
  • Actively lead and contribute to the development of the Defence Sourcing and Procurement teams.

Essential Skills

  • An understanding of the major issues faced in the Defence sector and an interest in innovative solutions and strategies to transform the sector.
  • Experience of influencing in high-profile, complex situations where stakeholders do not always agree about methods, decisions and strategic direction.
  • Experience of delivering public sector procurement projects, ideally within Defence with a good knowledge of public procurement regulations.
  • Experience in transforming procurement functions, focussing on people, processes, or technology.
  • Experience in responding to Defence opportunities/tenders.
  • Able to articulate complex ideas to all levels of an organisation, and effectively lead and manage all key stakeholders and team members, resolving issues, competing demands and conflicts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work in collaborative, multi-disciplinary environments.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances and to think creatively to solve client issues.
  • Excellent ability in Microsoft Office, particularly in Powerpoint and Excel.

Desirable Skills

  • MCIPS or equivalent.
  • Public sector business case development.
  • Experience and ability to operate and understand Project and Programme management disciplines including production of project plans, key quality programme deliverables and working and delivering to strict time constraints.
