JOB DESCRIPTION
The Manager Sustainability role requires an in-depth understanding of Sustainability concepts, theories, and principles and basic knowledge of other related disciplines. The Manager Sustainability must be able to apply an understanding of the industry to improve effectiveness, provide guidance, and influence processes and policies for the Sustainability discipline, as well as identify and resolve technical, operational, and organizational problems that impact effectiveness. The Manager’s Sustainability impacts the level of service and the Sustainability team’s ability to meet quality and timeliness objectives. Policies, resource requirements, budgets, and the business plan should guide decisions made by the Manager Sustainability.
Responsibilities
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
The Manager Sustainability is responsible for one or more of the following disciplines (Sustainability, Environmental).
Sustainability
- Drive the implementation of the company’s way for social responsibility across the project lifecycle, including alignment with joint venture partners and clients
- Manage social responsibility scopes of work, plans, and programs for proposals, pre-FEED/FEED, and EPC projects, including but not limited to:
- Social risk and impact
- Community investment
- Stakeholder engagement
- Grievance management
- National content/ local content/ in-country value
- Indigenous Peoples
- Human rights
- Ensure coordination and strategic alignment across social and local content initiatives that other functions, such as Environment, Safety, Security, Administration, HR, and Supply Chain, may own
- Manage Supplier Diversity Program in collaboration with the supply chain team
- Ensure responsibility stakeholder engagement, including clear roles and responsibilities defined with the client and managing local expectations (government, community, client)
- Support functions and project management to develop and apply appropriate tools, measures, and decision-making processes responsive to the specific cultural, local, regulatory, and client context
- Support project-level resources with social responsibilities to effectively implement plans and procedures and respond to change or new challenges
- Ensure compliance with international standards, regulations, and site-specific requirements, such as the IFC Performance Standards, UNGPs, ISO26000, and ECA Guidelines
- Promote SR business objectives, including risk reduction, reputational capital, employee engagement, and cost efficiency
- Develop strategic initiatives and partnerships in sustainability at fixed sites and operational offices in the Area
- Create social investment and local content strategies for key countries
- Help roll out strategic social investment programs (technical education, carbon offsetting, and women’s business development) in partnership with Area HR, Environment, Communications, and Supply Chain teams
- Advise the Commercial and Operations teams on social strategies in specific communities
- Support the Commercial and Operations teams by conducting sociopolitical, economic, and cultural analysis; social risk assessment; stakeholder engagement and stakeholder risk management; and social investment and local content initiatives for new markets, including new countries and geopolitical environments
- Work with Global Risk Management to assess, monitor, and manage non-technical risk in the Area
- Monitor geopolitical, sociocultural, climate change, and regulatory developments in the region in coordination with local team members, industry and non-profit networks, and partners
- Participate actively in industry meetings and sustainability organizations in the region to promote thought leadership and identify trends
- Provide inputs from Area in the global sustainability tracker, scenario planning, materiality assessments, and sustainability report
- Serve as the focal point for Supply Chain in Human Rights Working Group
- Support SCM-related Sustainability programs (e.g., category workshops)
- Support other sustainability tasks as agreed, such as reporting, strategy development, communication and engagement, and administrative tasks

Environmental
- Develop and implement a system for tracking and reporting on project-level sustainability metrics
- Chair cross-functional meetings to identify areas for improvement in sustainability practices
- Lead initiatives to enhance McDermott’s carbon offset programs
- Coordinate with external stakeholders for joint sustainability projects
- Represent McDermott at regional sustainability conferences and events
- Oversee the development and implementation of regional sustainability initiatives
- Drive cross-functional teams in advanced sustainability workshops
- Implement advanced FigBytes platform analytics for detailed reporting
- Lead the integration of sustainability goals into regional project management systems
- Collaborate with legal for regional analysis of emerging ESG regulations
- Spearhead the development of regional sustainability policies in alignment with global frameworks
- Collaborate with Marketing to create promotional materials for sustainability achievements

Additional Duties
- Own and lead the implementation, enforcement, and verification of compliance with all McDermott policies and procedures
- Ensure employees understand their responsibility and authority to effectively implement the requirements of all McDermott policies and procedures
- Ensure the timely completion of all mandatory training by themselves and their teams
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Sociology, International Studies, Political Science, Human Rights, Supply Chain, Legal, or a similar field OR bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Master’s degree in Sustainability, Social Responsibility, International Development, Human Rights, or a similar field is strongly preferred
- 10+ years of experience in Social Responsibility/Sustainability or a non-profit community development program management is preferred
- 5+ years in a leadership role or similar role
- Experience in the development of National Content Plans (for different countries/projects)
- Excellent data management skills, comfortable using digital tools and databases
- Flexibility to work across time zones
- Self-starter, highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented
- Strong problem-solving abilities and research skills
- Ability to effectively work with both internal and external partners in a highly collaborative, matrixed environment
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills and decision-making abilities
- Proactively identifies potential concerns and follows up to resolve issues
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel and PowerPoint
- Communication and presentation skills, both written and spoken
