Job Purpose

The Manager, Unsecured Consumer Credit is a technical specialist or subject matter expert responsible for shaping policy positions and supporting member engagement across the full breadth of unsecured consumer credit issues. The post holder will drive industry positions on key regulatory and legislative reforms, including the Consumer Credit Act (CCA) reform programme, coerced debt strategy development, credit data and debt related projects, and wider operational change, ensuring these are aligned with priorities agreed by the Product and Service Board.

They will work across multiple policy domains simultaneously, synthesising complex regulatory requirements, shaping coherent industry responses, and supporting members through periods of significant change.

The role requires strong subject matter expertise, the ability to lead cross-member working groups, and the capability to represent UK Finance credibly with senior stakeholders across government, regulators, industry and consumer organisations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cross-team collaboration - Maintain excellent working relationships across the Unsecured Consumer Credit team and the wider Personal Finance directorate, ensuring coordinated delivery on cross-cutting industry change programmes.
  • Governance support - Actively support the Credit PSB and relevant committees, providing leadership, consultancy and secretariat support to deliver agreed workplans and ensure strong governance.
  • Policy development - Lead and support policy development across the full breadth of unsecured consumer credit, synthesising complex regulatory change, mitigating risk, and driving good customer outcomes.
  • Consultation leadership - Coordinate and draft high-quality consultation responses on CCA reform, coerced debt strategy, credit data, debt policy and other PSB-mandated priorities, demonstrating flexible multi-tasking skills and the ability to rapidly pivot across evolving team projects.
  • Stakeholder engagement - Maintain a comprehensive network across members, HMT, regulators, debt advisers and other stakeholders to ensure UK Finance retains influence, credibility and current expertise.
  • Member representation - Build strong relationships with member firms, ensuring their priorities are accurately reflected in workplans, policy outputs and industry positions.
  • External engagement - Support UK Finance’s representational activities, including media engagement, campaigns, thought leadership, briefings, correspondence, training and events.
  • Communications - Contribute to clear, accurate and timely member and customer communications, ensuring effective dissemination of policy updates and industry developments.
  • Contribute flexibly to the wider work of the team as priorities develop.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
