The Group
The services provided by our Brands group embrace the full life cycle of a brand, from creation through to protection and enforcement. We are experts in trade mark and design filing, but we go beyond this. We add value to businesses by playing a strategic advisory role - finding the right legal strategy to best support your commercial strategy.
Our team of Partners, Associates, Trade Mark Attorneys and Paralegals means we can match the issue with the requisite level of expertise and experience. Whether your brand is new or established, or expanding into new markets, regions or sectors, we can ensure your rights are fully protected and ready for commercial exploitation.
We operate across five key areas - clearance (including acquisition), filing, monitoring, disputes and domain names - working in tandem with our IP disputes and commercial contracts groups. We have strong relationships with industry bodies across a variety of sectors and work closely with the UK and EU Intellectual Property Offices, and the World Intellectual Property Organisation.
Our trade mark practice in The Netherlands, Mishcon de Reya IP B.V., represents our clients in EU Trade Mark and Design matters before the European Intellectual Property Office.
Duties And Responsibilities
The role will involve advising on a varied range of IP advisory and disputes work, particularly in relation to soft IP matters (trade marks, designs and copyright). This will include day-to-day portfolio management, and worldwide filing, prosecution and enforcement and Registry dispute work at the UKIPO and other IP offices around the world.
The candidate will have every opportunity to engage in all aspects of the life and business of both the IP team, the wider Innovation Department and the Firm, ranging from business development, client care, training and learning, social impact, health and well-being projects.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
