An ambitious, successful and growing independent business is looking to appoint a Managing Director to lead the next stage of its development. This is a genuine opportunity to join a business with strong foundations, significant growth potential and an entrepreneurial culture, where the successful individual will work directly alongside the founders and have genuine influence over the future direction of the Group.
The Role
The business has grown significantly over the last decade (£20m+) and now operates across multiple complementary areas of construction and specialist services. Following a period of significant development, the business has established a clear long-term vision and is now looking to appoint an MD who can help turn that ambition into its next phase of growth.
This is both a commercial and operational leadership role, with responsibility for the overall performance and development of the Group. The MD will work closely with the founders and senior leadership team, with accountability for P&L, growth, EBITDA, cash generation, operational excellence and the successful execution of the Group's strategy.
This is particularly attractive for an experienced leader who wants to move closer to the centre of a business and have a tangible impact on its direction and performance. A role where you can work directly alongside the founders, shape strategy and see decisions translated into action.

The Person
We are looking for an experienced commercial leader with a strong background in construction, contracting, consultancy or technical services, who has previously led and grown a business or significant division.
You will bring:
- Proven P&L accountability and a strong understanding of EBITDA, cash generation and value creation
- A track record of growing revenue and profitability within a project-led or service-based business
- Experience developing and executing commercial strategy and identifying new markets and opportunities
- A strong track record of driving operational excellence, improving performance, efficiency and consistency as a business scales
- The ability to build the systems, processes and leadership capability required to support sustainable growth
- Strong leadership capability, with the ability to develop senior teams and create genuine accountability
- The commercial and operational credibility to challenge, influence and bring people with you
- An entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving SME environment
- The strategic perspective to understand where the business should compete and how it can build sustainable growth

The business would also be particularly interested in individuals who have taken a business or division through significant growth and, ideally, have exposure preparing a business for sale and a subsequent transaction.
The Opportunity
There is significant potential to build on the platform that has already been established and create a substantially larger and more valuable business. The business is already developing strong relationships and credentials within key markets, creating opportunities to build on its existing position and access a broader range of higher-value and more defensible work.
There is also the potential for the successful individual to play an important role in the future strategic development of the Group's specialist divisions, including supporting the growth of a business towards a potential future transaction.
This is not a role for someone looking for a short-term appointment. It is an opportunity to build something, work alongside the founders and play a meaningful role in determining what a successful independent business becomes over the next five to ten years.
