Managing Director | Kent, South East England | Import and Distribution | Newly Established Platform Business

Beaumont Bailey has been exclusively retained to appoint a Managing Director for a newly established materials import, storage and distribution business serving the South East of England and London.

The business operates from a modern deep-water terminal on the Thames Estuary, a significant infrastructure investment commissioned in 2024. The site handles large bulk vessels, holds substantial storage capacity, and was built to strengthen supply resilience in a structurally constrained regional market.

It is owned by well-established industrial shareholders, bringing extensive UK market reach and distribution capability as well as international production and global sourcing strength.

Following its first period of operation, the business is entering an important phase of its development, with a clear focus on commercial growth, operational performance and building a platform capable of delivering sustainable, long-term value.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Board, the incoming Managing Director will take full responsibility for the commercial and operational performance of the business. The mandate is to grow revenue and customer penetration across the region, optimise asset utilisation and throughput, and build and strengthen the operational disciplines of a business.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
