I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The role:
Taking full P&L responsibility for the UK business, you will lead a broad senior leadership team and have overall accountability for business performance.
A key part of the role will be identifying where the business can do more - whether through developing existing customer relationships, entering new markets, improving operational performance, investing in capability or strengthening the organisation for future growth.
You will be expected to bring pace, clarity and accountability, whilst creating an environment where people are empowered to perform and continuous improvement becomes part of the culture.
The person:
This is a senior leadership appointment and will require someone who has already operated with significant commercial and operational responsibility within a manufacturing environment.
You'll bring:
- Proven P&L leadership within a manufacturing environment.
- A strong commercial mindset and evidence of delivering profitable growth.
- The confidence to set direction whilst remaining close enough to the operation to make things happen.
- Strong strategic capability, combined with a pragmatic and decisive approach to execution.
- Experience leading and developing senior teams through periods of growth, change or transformation.
- The ability to influence at Board level and operate effectively within an international or group structure.
- A genuine appetite to challenge, improve and build rather than simply maintain the status quo.

Why this role?
This is not an opportunity to simply inherit a well-run business and keep it moving.
The foundations are strong, but there is significant scope for an ambitious leader to influence what comes next - commercially, operationally and organisationally.
You'll have the scale and resources of an established European group behind you, combined with the autonomy to make a genuine difference at UK level.
For a leader who wants P&L ownership, strategic influence and the opportunity to shape the next stage of a successful manufacturing business, this is a role with real scope to make your mark.
