Run a profitable, bootstrapped business and take it national
FleetEV supplies electric fleet vehicles to the public and private sector through outright purchase, leasing and salary sacrifice. We have grown from nothing to a multi-million pound major player with no outside investment, we are profitable, and we are Wales' largest supplier of EV fleet to the public sector. We hold top-ranked positions on the Welsh Government framework and places on ESPO, YPO and MUFG, which open the door to councils, NHS bodies, police forces and universities across the UK.
Our sister company, PLUG, operates around 1,500 public charge points. That means we can bring vehicles, charging and energy into one customer conversation. Very few fleet suppliers can.
We are growing at a pace few businesses ever see, and we are now appointing a permanent Managing Director to take over from our interim Managing Director and own that growth. The Founder and CEO is stepping back to focus on strategy and capital, and wants someone who will run FleetEV as if it were their own. With equity, it partly will be.
The role
You will have full ownership of FleetEV: its P&L, its people, its customers and how it runs day to day. You will lead the executive team, including Sales, Operations, Marketing and Bid Management, with Finance and Technology working alongside you. You will report to the CEO and present to the Board.
Within the approved annual plan you decide on pricing, customer contracts, supplier commitments, hiring and spend. A short list of matters stays with the CEO and Board, and on those we expect you to bring a recommendation, not a question.
What you will do
- Own the growth. Turn a large and expanding pipeline into delivered vehicles and recognised revenue, and keep the business scaling without losing its discipline.
- Take FleetEV national. Activate our English, Irish and Scottish framework positions region by region so that those other regions become as strong for us as Wales.
- Build the private sector book, including leasing and salary sacrifice, into a material share of revenue utilising our proprietary technology.
- Deepen our relationships with manufacturers, funders and framework bodies so that FleetEV is their preferred route into the public sector.
- Run the operating rhythm: a KPI framework with clear ownership, a weekly executive cadence, and a monthly Board pack the Board can rely on.
- Deliver a customer experience that people talk about, from order through to handover.
- Keep our systems and processes ahead of our growth, not behind it.
- Build and develop a leadership team capable of running a business three times the size, and set a culture that is commercial, accountable, fast and decent to work in.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Get help with your application
Your very own career expert that helps elevate your application to the next level.
It would help if you have:
- Working knowledge of salary sacrifice, EV benefit-in-kind economics and the total cost of ownership case for electrification
- Experience in a tech driven mobility company
- Led a CRM or systems change in a sales-led business
- Worked with Welsh public sector bodies, or a genuine interest in doing so
How you work
You know your numbers cold and expect your team to know theirs. You would rather fix a broken process this week than commission a report on it. You are calm, direct and hands-on: as comfortable with a manufacturer's fleet director or a council chief executive as you are in the detail with an operations coordinator. You want to build something bigger than you found it, and to share in the upside when you do.
What we offer
- Competitive base salary and performance bonus against agreed outcomes
- Equity in FleetEV
- Electric car or car allowance
- Pension, private medical and 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
- A founder who wants to hand over, has planned for it, and will back you with capital, contacts and cover
- Relocation support for the right candidate based elsewhere in the UK
Location
Cardiff, with regular travel across the UK. We will consider outstanding candidates based elsewhere in the UK who can commit to a substantial weekly presence in Cardiff.

An initial conversation with the CEO, a half day with the leadership team in Cardiff, a short presentation on your first 100 days, and references. We reply personally to every application.
FleetEV is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from everyone and will make adjustments at any stage of the process.
