Managing Director – Equine Veterinary Practice
Location: Wiltshire / Berkshire – site based
Salary: Up to £80,000, dependent on experience
We are working with a highly regarded Equine Veterinary Practice specialising in Elite Level Sports Medicine, who are looking to appoint an ambitious and highly organised Managing Director to lead the practice through its next stage of growth.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Equine Veterinary Nurse or senior practice professional who is ready to take the next step in their career and move into a broader leadership and operational role. You do not necessarily need to have held a Managing Director title previously. We are particularly interested in individuals who have a strong understanding of equine veterinary practice, excellent organisational skills and the ambition to take ownership of the wider running of a specialist practice.
Responsibilities
As Managing Director, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day operational and commercial management of the practice, working closely with the veterinary team and senior stakeholders to ensure the practice continues to deliver an exceptional service to clients and their horses. You will be responsible for ensuring the practice operates efficiently, maintaining high standards and supporting the team in a fast-paced and continually evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the practice
- Provide strong leadership, organisation and direction across the wider team
- Manage and develop staff, creating a positive and high-performing working environment
- Oversee operational processes, ensuring the practice runs efficiently and effectively
- Support financial and commercial performance, including budgets and cost control
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems and client experience
- Manage relationships with clients, suppliers and external stakeholders
- Ensure appropriate standards, policies and procedures are maintained
- Work closely with the veterinary team to support the continued development of the practice
- Help drive the practice's growth and strategic objectives
- Manage competing priorities and respond effectively to changing circumstances
- Take ownership of problems and find practical, commercially minded solutions
About You
We are looking for someone who is adaptable, highly organised and comfortable working at pace.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have experience within an equine veterinary environment
- Ideally be a qualified Equine Veterinary Nurse or have a strong veterinary practice background
- Be ready to take the next step into a senior leadership/management position
- Have excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Be confident managing people and multiple priorities
- Be commercially aware and comfortable taking responsibility for budgets and operational performance
- Be proactive, pragmatic and solutions focused
- Be able to cope well with change, pressure and a fast-paced environment
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Be confident making decisions and taking ownership
- Have a genuine passion for the equine industry and delivering outstanding client care
