Managing Director

Public Sector - Retrofit

North West

The Opportunity

SF Search Partners are working with a high-growth specialist contractor operating across the social housing market. The business delivers large-scale retrofit programmes working directly and through Tier 1 partners across housing association and public sector frameworks.

The business has an established delivery platform, strong client relationships and significant opportunity for further growth. It is now seeking an ambitious Managing Director to take ownership of the business and lead its next stage of development.

Key Responsibilities

The Managing Director will have full commercial and operational responsibility for the business, including:

  • Full P&L ownership and accountability for overall business performance
  • Developing and executing an ambitious strategy for profitable growth
  • Leading commercial strategy across frameworks, major bids, partnerships and pipeline development
  • Developing relationships with Tier 1 contractors, housing associations, local authorities and other public sector clients
  • Identifying opportunities across new customers, geographies and complementary service areas
  • Providing executive oversight of operational delivery, ensuring projects are delivered safely, compliantly and profitably
  • Developing the leadership team, organisational structure and capabilities required to support significant growth
  • Building a high-performance culture centred around ownership, pace, commercial awareness and accountability
  • Working closely with Group leadership while retaining the autonomy to lead and develop the business

Person Specification

We are looking for an entrepreneurial, energetic and commercially driven leader with:

  • Senior leadership experience within public sector-facing construction, contracting or infrastructure services
  • Strong commercial experience across frameworks, bids, tenders, contract negotiation, and client development
  • Experience managing or materially contributing to a P&L, with evidence of driving business, regional or divisional growth
  • A strong understanding of operational project delivery, contractual risk, supply chains and subcontractor management
  • The credibility and relationship-building skills to operate effectively with senior clients and strategic partners
  • Exposure to social housing, planned maintenance, refurbishment, building services, energy efficiency or decarbonisation would be advantageous

Previous Managing Director experience is not essential. This could be an excellent first MD appointment for a high-performing Commercial Director, Divisional Director, Regional Director or similar senior leader ready to take genuine ownership of a growing business.
