About Village Capital

Village Capital, a US-domiciled 501(c)3, delivers entrepreneur support programs and manages blended pools of investment capital. Known for its innovative approaches to supporting founders building solutions to social, economic, and environmental challenges, Village Capital unlocks social and financial capital for early-stage companies to maximize business and impact growth.

Since 2009, Village Capital has supported over 2,000 startups that have raised over $9 billion in follow-on investment capital.

Role Overview

The Managing Director for Finance and Operations will oversee the finance and operations department of Village Capital, ensuring its financial health, compliance with regulations, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate is an innovative, detail-oriented multi-disciplinary leader who excels at balancing strategic financial management with hands-on operations oversight. In coordination with the CEO and the MD for Impact Investments, this role will be tasked with driving forward VilCap’s financial strategy and operational model.

Experience in investment is essential to effectively integrate Village Capital’s revenue model, historically reliant on restrictive grant funding, with its ‘fit for purpose’ investment strategy. VilCap is a nonprofit impact investor; therefore, as an intermediary, the business model is dependent on successful delivery and management of blended finance.

The MD for Finance and Operations should possess expertise in investment management: familiarity with fund administration, investment facilities, and accounting practices, as well as a knowledge of blended finance, and willingness to innovate on how to integrate VilCap’s ongoing investment strategy within the organization’s accounting and operations strategy. Global asset management understanding is key, including the ability to manage multi-currency transactions, underwrite and recognize debt and alternative investments, and accompanying accounting and financial modeling skills.

Responsibilities

Financial Leadership

Financial Management, Reporting, and Compliance

  • Build the strategy for updating and implementing automated systems and processes to collect, analyze, and report financial data accurately and timely.
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, dashboards, as well as forward-looking projections to inform the CEO, senior management, and board of directors’ decision-making.
  • Manage investment and grant funding pipeline data collection; track financial performance, and ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements.

Budgeting, Audit, and Tax Compliance

  • Manage year-end close processes, annual budgeting, and financial planning, including board approval and variance analysis.
  • Oversee annual audits and tax filings (e.g., Form 990), including program-specific audits, ensuring timely completion with minimal findings.

Cash, Asset, and Grant Management

  • Develop and operate cash strategy: optimize the cash runway with efficient management of restricted and temporarily restricted assets and free cash; meet board requirements for cash and unrestricted net assets reserves.
  • Oversee the strategy and administration of fiscal sponsorships, re-grants, and other pass-through funds.
  • Develop updated product and service financial model, pricing, and budgeting in line with business model forward strategy.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
